GT3 Asia starts season with 23 cars
The GT3 Asia season of 2010 will flag-off at the Asian Festival of Speed 2010 held in the Sepang International Circuit this weekend. A collaboration between the Supercar Club of Hong Kong and Motorsport Asia, the GT3 Asia series is now in its third year under AFOS.
This weekend’s action will see drivers hailing from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Canada, Chinese Taipei and Sri Lanka competing in cars such as the Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche 997 GT3 R, Lamborghini LP560 GT3, and Ferrari F430 GT3.
SPS Motorsport will be amongst the more prominent teams on the starting grid, with Michael Choi leading a fleet of seven Lamborghini Gallardos racing under the SPS banner. Reigning GT3 Asia Champion, Tunku Hammam, will also be taking to the track in a Gallardo, swapping from his Porsche of 2009.
Singaporeans Mok Weng Sun of Team Porsche Club Singapore, whose Porsche 997 GT3 R could not be made available on time, will be racing in a modified 2009 Porsche 997 Cup S powered by the GT3 R’s 4.0-litre engine. Team mate David Lai, whose 997 GT3 R also could not make it, will now compete with Team Clearwater Racing in a Lambo LP560.
Two trophies are on offer for this season’s GT3 Asia championship – GT Team Champion and GT Master Trophy.
