Shell 1 Litre Challenge goes to East Malaysia
The Shell 1 Litre Challenge, which helped 24 year-old Jason Lai Tseun Yong pocket RM50,000 last year, now arrives at East Malaysia. For the East Malaysia edition, the prize for winning the challenge not only earns the winner the RM50,000 cash prize, but also a place alongside Lai to compete in the Asia’s Smartest Driver challenge in July.
“The 1 Litre Challenge is one of the many initiatives undertaken by Shell as part of our ongoing commitment to educate motoring communities to be more fuel efficient and savvy. The Challenge encourages ordinary Malaysians to put into context just how far 1 litre of Shell FuelSave can take them,” said Encik Azman Ismail, Managing Director, Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Director, Shell Timur Sdn Bhd.
En Azman further added, “Shell has a proud heritage of over 100 years in producing breakthrough fuels specifically with motorists in mind. With that the FuelSave formula was scientifically and independently proven to give you extra kilometres for every full tank. In fact, we put FuelSave in a real test with over 400 cars around the world to ensure that we help you make the most out of every drop.”
Registration has already commenced, with on-ground recruitment for the Sarawak leg, to be held on 15 – 16 May 2010 at Safewide – SH Jalan Tun Jugah, Kuching, having already taken place on 7 – 9 May at The Spring. If you missed that, don’t worry, you haven’t missed the boat. Online registration (at www.shell.com.my/fuelsave) ends tomorrow, 12 May 2010.
Folks in Sabah looking to participate ought to make their way to One Borneo, Kota Kinabalu on 14 – 16 May 2010, or register online on 15 – 19 May for the Sabah leg to be held on 22 – 23 May at the Kotubu Shell Station, Kota Kinabalu.
Over the two days of the challenge, shortlisted participants will be put through a brief interview stage. Those who survive this stage will return the next day to drive cars provided by Shell along a pre-determined route, with the winner being the one who clocked the best fuel consumption along that route.
From each of these two finals, the top three winners will then proceed to the national level finals to be held at Kota Kinabalu on 12 July 2010.
“This time round, Shell has increased the stakes. The Shell FuelSave Champion (East Malaysia) will not only receive the same grand prize of RM50,000 but will be part of Team Shell Malaysia for the 1 Litre Challenge hosted during the Shell Eco Marathon. The competition is a first in Asia and will be held in Kuala Lumpur. Last year’s Challenge was held in Dresden, Germany and saw Shell’s FuelSave Ambassador and Malaysia’s very own Fahrin Ahmad driving into first place clocking in 21.3km on 1 Litre of FuelSave,” added Azman.
