Nissan releases Navara Calibre

by -

This was just shared on Nissan Malaysia’s Facebook page. Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd has just released a new rear-wheel drive variant of the Nissan Navara pick-up truck. Priced at RM89,900 on-the-road with insurance, the Nissan Navara Calibre comes with a de-tuned version of the 2.5-litre YD25DDTi four-pot turbodiesel powering existing variants of the Navara.

From 172hp, power has gone down to a still respectable 142hp @ 4,000rpm. Torque is similarly scaled back from 403Nm to 356Nm @ 2,000rpm. Don’t chuckle though. This is still good enough to keep most of its competitors at arm’s length. The Mitsubishi Triton 3.2 has more horses (158hp), but still loses out in torque (343Nm) to this ‘de-tuned’ Nissan unit.

Power goes to the rear wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission. Specs in the official Navara website show identical gear ratios to the top-spec Navara LE, but with a revised final drive ratio of 3.357 compared to 3.538 of the LE. Most mechanical bits appear unchanged, though LSD has been omitted along with the electronic 4WD.

In terms of equipment, the only omitted items of any consequence are the two airbags up front. We have not been officially notified by ETCM of this model, but we’ll be giving them a friendly ring when they get back to office on Monday.
