Axle BHPetrol Racing gets off to winning start
The newly launched Axle BHPetrol Racing team got off to a winning start over the weekend with a string of good performances from James Pull, Daim Hishammudin and Tan Wei Ron in the opening race of Yamaha SL Cup 2010 held at the Sepang Karting Circuit.
In the Cadet series, Pull took the chequered flag for both Race 1 and 2 of the first round, putting him in the lead of the points standing. Teammate Daim finished 3rd in Race 1, before improving to 2nd in Race 2, and taking overall 2nd spot in the Championship standings with it.
Commenting on the team’s performance, Team Manager Megat Shazreal said, “Axle BHPetrol has the advantage of a good kart chasis set-up and strong team commitment which will enable the team to compete successfully in the Championship.”
“That was definitely a good weekend for me,” said James regarding the final race. “I’m happy to win the race despite having minor problems finding the right setup for my new chassis during the race week,” added James.
Meanwhile, in the Senior Category, Tan Wei Ron finished 2nd in Race 1, then dropping to 5th in Race 2. Against the field of experienced drivers, this was nevertheless sufficient to secure the 15-year-old a 3rd overall finish.
Judging from the results of last weekend’s round in Sepang, Megat Shazreal is optimistic of another good showing from his team. “The competition in Round 2 of Yamaha SL Cup will be intense and the team will commence practice testing early in the week to maximize valuable track time. I am confident that we will perform better in Round 2 to maintain our winning lead ” he concluded.
