Kia to preview next gen Optima at New York

Kia is set to give the next generation Optima its world premier at the 2010 New York International Auto Show scheduled to take place from 2nd to 11th April.

“The next generation Optima possesses the power to surprise,” says Peter Schreyer, Kia’s Chief Design Officer. “It’s a car that people will simply not expect from Kia – and that’s exactly what we set out to achieve.”

Schreyer, prised from Audi, has already helped Kia to pen stunning boldly-styled models such as the Soul, c’eed, and Forte, kept his good work going with the Optima, which dons properly sophisticated styling lines. For a start, it already looks light-years better than the current Optima.

Kia is keen to point out that the new Optima has adopted a more coupe-like profile, being longer, wider, and lower than its predecessor. This is reinforced by the roofline joining the C-pillar at a noticeably raked angle.

“The Optima embodies Kia’s confident new design direction,” says Schreyer. “It’s a global car with individual appeal.”

Together with the recently introduced Hyundai Sonata, Korea will soon have a pair of very competent D-segment sedans breathing down Japanese throats. We can’t wait to see the battle unfold.
