Wing Hin Automobile Sdn Bhd, one of UMW Toyota Motor’s key dealers in Malaysia, yesterday launched its newly upgraded 3S centre with increased capacity and the addition of Body & Paint repair capability. Built to cater mostly to customers in Cheras Selatan, Balakong, Seri Kembangan, and Serdang areas, upgrading works of the facility cost Wing Hin a substantial sum of RM39 million.

Officiating the new facility were UMW Toyota Motor Chairman Y.B. Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, Wing Hin Chairman Mr Loh Tuck Sum, UMW Toyota Motor President Mr Kuah Kock Heng, and Director of Wing Hin Mr William Loh.

Speaking at the function, Mr William Loh said, “We have been enjoying steady growth in our new vehicle sales, achieving a record of 1,253 units per annum in year 2008. With this increasing trend in vehicle sales, there was also a corresponding increased demand for after-sales including body & paint repairs.”

Located at Balakong, Selangor, Wing Hin’s facility measures a whopping 168,400 square feet. Its service facility now has 49 service bays, up from 15 previously, able to cater for 100 vehicles per day. Meanwhile, its B&P centre has 71 bays, and is able to repair 170 vehicles per month. In terms of manpower, the centre is manned by a 92-strong workforce.

Founded in 1974 as an authorized Toyota genuine spare parts dealer, Wing Hin expanded its business to include the setting up of sales showroom operation in January 2004. Currently, Wing Hin’s purchase of parts from UMW Toyota is valued at RM30 million, while for the past three years, more than 1,000 cars have been moved from their showroom floors per year.

In 2009, Wing Hin’s dealership accounted for 1,068 of 82,000 cars sold by UMW Toyota. For 2010, the target for Wing Hin is to breach 1,200 cars, while UMW Toyota aims to sell 88,000 units, on the back of a positive for 2010 by the Malaysian Automotive Association.

Toyota & Lexus cars in Malaysia NOT affected by US recall

Yesterday, UMW Toyota Motor also released a statement to the press stating that Toyota and Lexus models sold through official channels in Malaysia are unaffected by the ongoing safety recall taking place in the US.

The recall, which involves 2.3 million Toyota vehicles of eight different models in the US, do not concern us here, as the accelerator pedal components, cause of the recall, used in the US market differ from those found in models sold here.
