It would seem that Proton is set to give the Persona a facelift next year. Our long time forummer, drexchan, posted a set of pictures of disguised prototypes in the WISE Auto Club forums.

No visible change in the interior, but all-new side mirror comes with integrated blinkers.

  1. Hmm… can see from the 2nd pic, the integrated cd player is now gone… I wonder whether this time it will featured a USB slot and bluetooth enable….

    No CPS? hmmm… anyway… i like the new rear tail lite.. looks 100 times better than the current one….

  2. Wah so fast ah? I saw these cars along MRR2 near Pandan Indah near the flyover. Couldn’t catch up for some OTR shots due to the usual Saturday noon congestion. Was my lucky day, met them again in Shell Station before exiting to Karak Highway. Walked to the guys who claimed to be R&D engineers/test drivers and asked for permission to take some photographs. My wife did it while I spent my precious time introducing myself, and chatted about the car.

    Anyway, as you can see:
    1. new front bumper ‘like’ Gen.2 CPS, with modified grille (chrome + matte black).
    2. new wing mirrors with blinkers, fender blinkers removed.
    3. new aerokit including front, side and rear skirts, plus a new spoiler.
    4. new alloy wheels, size unchanged.
    5. smoked headlamp (like the current Persona SE).
    6. all new LED tail lamps (unlike the Envy prototype, which is just an aftermarket product)
    7. new audio headunit with wider LCD screen, with unknown features.

    What you don’t see here (but informed by the engineers):
    8. IAFM engine remains, with new 32bit ECU, that’s equipped with a new sensor (undisclosed function), that handles a wider fueling and ignition mapping, for a more refined performance and fuel economy.
    9. special features on the headlamps and cabin lamp, sorta like a timer/dimmer, like the Exora, but only on the HL variant.

    On some related development, I am informed about:
    10. the NEXT NEW Persona will be based on a new platform, equipped with a ‘new’ engine.
    11. Waja replacement model is confirmed and on the pipeline, based on a Japanese model (hope you get my hint).

  4. at the end of the day proton sucks. so expensive for a car which cant last more then 4 years. i prefer to pay extra and get another more branded car.

  6. everytime they facelifted…it’s just the same…..look at toyota….its alot of changes…not like proton… i bet that the upcoming model such as kia soul,the new forte,new chevy cruze and might new vios will reduce the selling of proton…come on proton …do a changes of the persona rear look..it looks odd..

  7. Facelift is NOT new generation. All the different ‘types’ of Myvis you see on the road are the result of facelifting. Facelifting is like when you cut a new hair style, not giving birth to your junior.

  10. I like Persona, the 3 main factors hinder me to buy are the weird tail lamp, funny circle lcd for integrated audio & IAFM engine, prefer more with CPS. But very hopefully, the new facelift will be far better. Can’t wait to test drive. Will the new Waja to be launched on the same year as the New Persona Facelift?

  11. Shuk…. I don’t expect the facelifted Persona to drive much different than the current one, unless significant reworking has been done on the engine and suspension, which I doubt.

    I have yet to speak to anyone from Proton on this, but from the pics alone.. there are minimal changes to the dash, and also the Campro IAFM continues.

    Word is that the new Waja will come next year

    Facelift side mirror are wider than current one as i notice!
    arggg~! after it release, dont know side mirror and led tail can fit into my persona onot ….

    god bless, it could better than our current persona,and hope it oso fix the famous metal cranking sound too~!!!!!!
