Civic Type R facelifted

Civic Type R facelifted

Back in 2007, Honda Malaysia pulled off the unthinkable. They brought the FD2 Civic Type R to our shores. The significance of this was that Malaysia became the first country ever to officially sell a JDM version of the Civic Type R. For the 8th Gen Civic, all other countries had to make do with the smaller European FN2 version.

When the first shipment of 60 units landed in Port Klang, each car already had owners waiting for them. From what I was told, members of the media had a long wait before getting their eager hands on a test car. Even amongst Honda showrooms, only selected outlets had display cars.

Since then, Honda Malaysia has put nearly 200 units of the Civic Type R on our roads, and the good news is that we’ll have more coming in. The latest shipment of the Type R, sporting some typical facelift enhancements, has arrived. Outside, the lights are now amended as per the facelifted Civic Gen 8, and the side mirrors are equipped with power folding. Inside, the ICE unit has also been revamped, with USB connectivity added in.

Commenting on the launch of the new Civic Type R, Mr. Toru Takahashi, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Honda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. said, “The Type R is in a class of its own, having achieved cult status with a huge following in Malaysia, whether directly or indirectly. We are pleased to constantly improve on our products and services to fulfill the demands of the market, bringing the joy of ownership to our customers”.

“The Type R is designed for high performance at high speed, symbolically reflected by the invigorating Championship White and its sleek black and red trademark inside. While maintaining safety for both driver and passengers, the Type R gives speed and control to drivers at their fingertips. It is a true driver’s car,” added Mr. Takahashi.

Honestly, it hardly matters whether the Type R came with the said enhancements or not. What’s important is that it’s still coming, and for that, we’re very happy. Its price tag is still unchanged. Drive one home for RM199,800 (OTR with Insurance, Peninsula).
