GRA Round 1 To be Run at night
The first round of the 2009 GRA Grassracing Autocross Championships scheduled for this Saturday, 2nd May 2009, will be a very unique event. In an unprecedented move, the organizers have decided to hold a night race, at the Shah Alam Stadium car park circuit.
Activities will start from midday at the Shah Alam Stadium car park, and fans will be able to browse the many colourful and exciting cars that are coming from as far as Alor Setar and Singapore to take part in the event. The regular sponsors like Meguair’s, Redline, Arospeed, Vanli and Gophers will be putting up stands to showcase their products, and there are special offers for the day.
Gophers will also be doing test drives for potential customers with the latest GPS sets from noon on Saturday all the way into the evening until the racing starts.
For the participants, it will be a new experience, as none have ever tried night racing, and it is rumoured that some competitors are fitting spotlights onto their cars. For spectators it will be equally exciting. Having the race on at night will put a new dimension into autocrossing as a sport, what with the pylons and the kerbs and trees. Expect to see some spills and thrills as more than 100 expected entries put their cars to the test against the clock.
