Kuala Lumpur, 08 August 2008 – The new MINI John Cooper Works, one that has particular emphasis on sporting performance is here in Malaysia, introduced by BMW Malaysia.

This new addition to the MINI family is the first model to be launched under the brand MINI John Cooper Works following its debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

“The MINI JCW represents our commitment to meet the demands and challenges of the race track in every respect and to fulfil all the needs of everyday motoring in terms of function, design, reliability, and a long running life,” said Farid Sulaiman, MINI Manager.

The MINI John Cooper Works is equipped with a newly developed four-cylinder power unit, complete with its twin-scroll turbocharger and the direct gasoline injection is 155kW/211hp. Peak torque of 260 Newton-metres/192 lb-ft is delivered from as low as 1,850 rpm, increasing briefly in Overboost to an even more impressive 280 Newton-metres/206 lb-ft. The acceleration rate is 0–100 km/h in 6.5 sec with a maximum speed of 238 km/h. The pistons, valves, turbochargers, intake and exhaust system are all optimised for delivering a convincing motorsport performance.

Drive is to the front wheels in typical MINI style, and a six-speed manual gearbox is standard equipment. The gear ratios ensure an ideal transition of speed from one gear to the next, thus guaranteeing smooth and ongoing acceleration without the slightest interruption.

The motor racing technology in the MINI John Cooper Works comes with a sports suspension and sports brakes that guarantee short stopping distances and precise response.

Also available is the John Cooper Works Aerodynamic Kit, complete with a carbon rear spoiler that lends the car a powerful, striking appearance, and improves handling, especially at high speeds and in fast corners.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), is offered as standard, unique to the MINI John Cooper Works. It also features Brake Assistance and Uphill Set-Off Assistant, a sports braking system with anti-lock brakes, Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBFD), electronic Cornering Brake Control (CBC), and Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) in the DSC off-mode.

Interior-wise, the MINI John Cooper Works is conceived and designed for the sporty and the stylish with a leather sports steering wheel with multifunction buttons, roof lining finished in Anthracite, and an interior trim in Piano Black. The MINI John Cooper Works is available with a choice of nine paintwork colours: Chili Red and Pepper White non-metallic, supplemented by Lightning Blue, Laser Blue, British Racing Green, Astro Black, Pure Silver, Dark Silver, and Sparkling Silver metallic.
Weighing less than ten kilograms, the wheels of the MINI John Cooper Works are exclusive 17-inch light-alloys. These are the lightest production wheels in the entire market segment of the MINI John Cooper Works. The 205/45 84W high-speed tyres come with failsafe running qualities, enabling the driver to continue driving even after a complete loss of air pressure.
Both the MINI and John Cooper Works have a similar motorsport legacy that dates back 50 years ago. Born in 1923, John Cooper, who eventually established the Cooper Car Company with his father Charles Cooper in 1946, also became a renowned racing driver and a British car constructor. A very close relationship with Sir Alec Issigonis, creator of the classic Mini, saw the birth of dynamic racing characteristics complementing the trendy and popular Mini.

The new MINI John Cooper Works is available at Auto Bavaria and Sapura Auto showrooms from Aug 2, 2008.

The retail price for the MINI John Cooper Works (on the road, without insurance, but includes the Aerodynamic Kit and Carbon Rear Spoiler) is RM279,000.

Like all other MINIs, the MINI John Cooper Works comes with Tender, Loving, Care (TLC) – MINI’s service inclusive program wherein MINI customers need not have to pay for maintenance of their MINI for 3 years or 50,000km. TLC can be obtained for an additional RM888.
