Sepang, 22 March 2008 – Renault, under the auspices of TC Eurocars Sdn Bhd, intend to introduce some exciting performance models in the second half of this year.
Announcing this was Reza Mutalib of TC Eurocars during its F1 Gokart Media Challenge held at the Sepang Gokart Circuit yesterday.
The Renault Megane Sport, with a 4 cylinder, 2.0 litre inline turbocharged engine is a promising car for those who want a performance car that is a little out of the ordinary. Based on the Megane, the Megane Sport comes with humongous brakes and a six-speed gearbox, sports suspension and ultra-low profile tyres. At an estimated price of RM235k, it looks like a very attractive package.
Also on display at the gokart track was a Renault Clio, the smaller version cub sport car from Renault, a car that is already very popular amongst the young in Europe. no price was mentioned, but it should be somewhat lower priced thna the Megane.
Also present at the gokart challenge was Nelson Piquet Junior, Renault’s second driver, who put the Megane Sport through its paces at the gokart track, including giving some of the media a ‘taxi ride’ in it.
The highlight of the day was the gokart challenge, during which the media had a chance to go racing side by side with the Renault drivers. The top media driver was a beaming Ian Khong who walked away with a radio-controlled Renault F1 car as the prize.
