Japan GT Race Queens Have Another Battle of their Own

Kuala Lumpur, 15 June 2006 – While the teams and drivers of the Japan GT compete for their respective race titles at the Sepang F1 track two weekends away, the Japan GT Championship Malaysia 2006 will witness an equally fiery battle off the track for the title for the best GT Queen.

“For the fun of the event, we shall be organizing an informal contest among the media photographers to name their choice for the best GT Queen for the Sepang race. And, this will include the umbrella girls for the local race teams as well,” says Azhar Ghazali, the Press Officer for Sepang International Circuit.

“We are expecting more than 200 photographers to cover the event and it should be an interesting competition and a huge collection of photographs,” said Azhar, adding a dedicated notice board would be provided at the Media Centre to show off the photographers.

The competing GT teams would be bringing with them some 60 official team GT Queens along with a quartet of queens – Aya Kiguchi, Sayaka Marui, Sawa Enami and Asami Kikuchi otherwise known as the 4Tunes, who are official appointees of the series promoter, Japan GT Association.

To be held from 23rd to 25th June, the Japan GT Championship Malaysia will feature Round 4 of a nine-round Super GT Series as well as support races from the JPM Honda Integra Cup, Formula V6 Asia, Asia Formula Renault Challenge, the Hong Kong Gates Classic Car Championship and the supercars, supersaloon, supersixteen and supercompact championships from the Malaysian Super Series.

To promote the Japan GT race, SIC has, since May, roped in the services of Hisami Asakura, Kaoru Sumiya and Aki Oguchi as their circuit’s Japan GT Babes and they have been traveling on a roadshow around the country, which includes visits to selected shopping complexes, entertainment outlets and clubs around the Klang Valley.

Not to be outdone by their GT colleagues, teams competing in the support races will also be bringing their own brigades of race queens, who, like the Japan GT Queens, sometimes create a bigger stir than the competing drivers.

“Of course, we will have our own Race Queens at the circuit. We also want to look pretty as well,” says Noordin Saisi, promoter of the JPM Integra Cup Malaysia, which will have 25 cars on the grid.

Based on the opening round of the Formula V6 Asia last month, the series promoted by Motorsports Asia Limited shall be showing off umbrella girls as stunning as their Japanese counterparts, and it is expected that these queens will be giving the Japan GT queens a run for their money in the quest to be the Race Queen of Sepang.

Teams from the Asia Formula Renault Challenge as well as the top teams from the Malaysian Super Series would definitely want their one of their own race queens to be the winner in the selection of the best race queen award in Sepang.

One thing is for sure; fans are likely to be seeing more race queens than drivers on the racing track and nobody will be complaining.
