Enter the Porsche Cayman S
Kuala Lumpur, 21 January 2006 – Auto Eurokars, the official distributors for the Porsche brand in Malaysia, launched the new Porsche Cayman S to selected guests and the media at the Shook Restaurant in Starhill Gallery tonight. Hundreds of Porsche owners, businessmen and car enthusiasts thronged around the two new cars after they were unveiled by Dato’ Mokhzani Mahathir and Dato’ Francis Yeoh.
The Cayman S is a hardtop, mid-engined Porsche, originally prototyped in 1953 on the legendary Porsche 550 coupe. A special edition called the 550 Spyder was later developed for the Le Mans 24 Hours race.
Like the 550, the 2-seater Cayman is a sports coupe ready to be driven straight on to the racetrack. With a free-revving six-cylinder boxer engine developing 295 bhp and 340 Nm of torque, the 3.4 litre Cayman gets from zero to 100 km/hr in 5.4 seconds, and hits a top speed of 275 km/hr.
Brakes are massive multi-pot Porsche-made all round, and good enough to go racing with, although the more ‘kiasu’ types can opt for the carbon-fibre type at extra cost.
According to Dato’ Mokhzani, the Cayman can be customised to individual customer tastes; all you have to do is to walk into the showroom, and go over all the available options with your favourite Porsche sales person, and get everything the way you like it, including specially monogrammed headrests, if you so wish.
