Honda’s Theme For 39th Tokyo Motor Show is ‘Feel Fine’

Tokyo, Wednesday, 19th October 2005 – Day 3 of Honda’s Japan Trip. Honda announced its theme for the Tokyo Motor Show today at the opening press conference as ‘Feel Fine’, an expression of Honda’s commitment to creating new value and offering customers exciting new automobiles that exceed all expectations and deliver a unique sense of exhilaration. The ‘Feel Fine’ theme is expanded to ‘FINE TECHNOLOGY’ and ‘FINE TIMES’, a reflection of the company’s free thinking and philosophy of coming out with FINE cars that are superior automobiles full of individuality and fresh ideas, cars that everyone can enjoy driving. The displays are broken up into themed zones to showcase the direction in which Honda is heading

The CONCEPT Zone displays cars featuring advanced technologies and environmental initiatives. For the lifestyles of the young and trendy, Honda featured the SPORTS4 Concept car, a two-door sports coupe fitted with the latest technologies for life in the fast lane.

To enhance family values and protect the environment for future generations, Honda presented the futuristic-looking FCX CONCEPT, a car running on hydrogen, which burns cleanly to end up with water as its exhaust. The concept car also features many groundbreaking technologies developed by Honda R & D. These include ‘next-generation’ fuel-cell technology and a low-floor, low-centre-of-gravity premium 4-door body (so that everyone in the family can enjoy the car) and next-generation power trains.

Also on display is the W.O.W. CONCEPT, a small car that is enjoyable, dog-friendly (there is a provision for you to take your dog out for a ride in it), mobile lifestyle.

There is also an “ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY ZONE’ that features an easy-to-understand presentation of Honda’s SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive) system for the Honda Legend, including video and an actual vehicle display.

The MOTOR SPORTS ZONE has a Honda’s F1 and Indy Car on display, plus a preview of Honda’s soon-to-be-released new S2000 production vehicle, equipped with more advanced features than ever before.

The CIVIC ZONE has the newly-launched 8th generation Honda Civic, featuring a new 1.8 litre I-Vtec engine, with a 5-speed automatic gearbox, that together make up a package with the power of a 2.0 litre but the fuel economy of a 1.5 litre car. Also featured was the Civic Hybrid, something that we Malaysians should seriously consider buying in face of the ever-increasing cost of fuel. (Of course, to do this, we need the government to provide some incentives to Honda Malaysia, as the cost of the car is a lot higher, resulting in a much higher retail price.) Moving to hybrid cars will save the nation more money through fuel savings over the lifetime of the car.

In the Special Needs Zone, Honda featured the STEP WGN with a side lift-up mechanism, for handicapped passengers. Handicapped persons can also drive the Step Wgn, thanks to Honda’s Techmatic driving assistance system.

All in all, Honda’s exhibition has a total of 23 vehicle types, with 25 vehicles actually on display.
