Petaling Jaya, 13th August 2005 – En Bastamam Hamzah, the CEO of Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn Bhd, unveiled the new Grand Vitara 2.0L GLX in a simple ribbon cutting ceremony to the invited press, dealers and public at the 1Utama Shopping Complex, Petaling Jaya.

The Suzuki Grand Vitara, a replacement to the popular Suzuki Vitara, is the latest Suzuki model to hit Malaysian shores, just 3 months after its world launch. With this model, Suzuki finally has an entry to the highly competitive SUV segment. This model also represents Suzuki’s third launch in as many months, signifying their comeback into this market.

The Grand Vitara is a 2.0 lit SUV, priced at RM139,888.00 (on the road without insurance) and comes in a choice of 5 metallic and pearl colours, ranging from Silky Silver Metallic, Bluish Black Pearl, Graphite Gray Pearl Metallic, Azure Grey Pearl Metallic and Clear Beige Metallic. It is powered by a 2.0lit DOOHC 16 Valve inline 4 which produces 140bhp of power and torque of 183Nm/4000rpm, which is coupled to a 4WD transaxle equipped with 4H mode, 4H Lock mode, and 4L Lock mode for serious off-roading.

Built from the ground up, this 3rd generation Grand Vitara was developed as a new SUV to feel at home on jungle tracks and city streets. This is reflected in the chassis which incorporates the “Built-in Ladder Frame” (monocoque body with built-in ladder frame) technology, which elevates rigidity and durability of the vehicle during off-road excursions, without compromising on comfort and smoothness in city driving.

While retaining its abilities for all terrain, all weather capability, it is also handsomely styled with its square shoulders and flared fenders on the exterior. With its longer wheelbase and wider track than its predecessor, it offers substantial interior space with luxurious leather seats. The Grand Vitara is also equipped with substantial safety features such as 2 front airbags, 2 side airbags, 2 curtain airbags and a 4 channel ABS, with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).
