Tribe On Track

Tribe On Track

Often cruising off the Information Superhighway and onto off-the-beaten-path trails, Toyota Unsers and their owners routinely gathered to travel in convoys, as part of quality-time activities of the tightly-knit, web-based “Funser” community. From road trips to general get-togethers, treasure hunts to picnics, owners of the MPV had formed a family-on-wheels – underscoring the adage: “Birds of a feather “park” together”.

Well, that family is about to get much bigger, as Toyota launches the more inclusive “Tribe Toyota”.

An online community for all Toyota Lifestyle Vehicle owners (which include Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs), Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and Four Wheel Drives (4x4s)), Tribe Toyota will bring its large extended family under one (sun) roof. Comprising the Unser, Avanza, Hilux and RAV4, Tribe Toyota will represent the strong espirt de corps of Toyota drivers, and express the sense of togetherness and comradeship found within the Toyota family.

An expansion of the family correlates to an expansion of features (and therefore fun).

One of the main innovations of the online-based community is the Events Calendar, which allows spirited Tribe Toyota members to keep track of all ongoing and upcoming community events. In addition, members could also organize activities of their own and publicize them via the Calendar. Other functionalities include: a feature which helps members keep tabs on specific events; a Reminder service; and a function which allows members to monitor the number of people who have signed up for any particular event.

Ancillary attractions of the community are as diverse and exciting as its members. Tribe Toyota’s Quest features engaging articles and reports – filed by researchers traveling Malaysia for the ideal lifestyle vehicle destinations – meant to stimulate members’ sense of adventure.

For gourmands, a Food section highlights outlets in nooks and crannies nationwide, whose excellent fare make the (potentially) challenging trip to reach them worth-it.

Tribe Toyota’s Off-Road corner, meanwhile, imparts cool information relating to extreme sports and action-adventure activities sure to appeal to the community’s more intrepid members. (Hilux drivers in particular, can take their macho vehicles off the tarmac for a romp in soil and mud!)

With a seemingly endless lineup of scheduled events, cameras can be expected to work overtime capturing and preserving key moments for the each member’s posterity. Highlights will doubtlessly be shared and traded among members, but with the Tribe’s Photo Gallery, members need not trawl through the Net, bouncing from different photo-housing sites, for a look back at community events. A one-stop photo album, the Gallery allows members to store and display their photos to other members, and even the public.

With the emphasis on creating and maintaining bonds between members being one of the ‘driving’ forces of Tribe Toyota, the community promotes easy online communication via the interactive Forum. If the Funser Forum – which saw members nationwide engaging in lively online discussions on topics ranging from “favorite eating places” to “previous night’s episodes of popular television series” – is anything to go by, then the Tribe Forum will be a surefire Tower of Babel. To facilitate said connections, the community also boasts a Members Profile database, which enables members to search for like-minded friends with whom interests can be shared and activities planned.

Going from 0 to 100 in 5 seconds, Tribe Toyota’s kick-off will be an event to look forward to in itself. Dubbed the “Tribe Toyota Amazing Trail 2005″, the extravaganza promises to have engines roaring with excitement all throughout Malaysia.
