V•Sixers: Slippin’ and Slidin’ Wet Go-Kart Race

The V•Sixers: Perdana V6 Club conducted their first activity for the year 2005 with a special go-kart race. Unlike other go-kart events conducted by the club, the race on the 15th January 2005 was a wet one. The track managed by KartQuest in Bandar Sunway was doused with water on the entry and exit of corners.

The go-karts shod with slicks had to navigate through the water-drenched track. This in essence provided the ideal recipe for the karts to have minimal traction and the ability to slip and slide around the track with relative ease, making maneuvering around the bends tricky.

The surroundings around the track were lively with about 50 members from the club who came to participate or to support their friends and fellow members. A total of 30 members from the club participated in the wet go-kart race creating a spectacle in terms of atmosphere and ambience alike.

Officiating at the opening of the event, Chan Eu Jin, the Club President gave the members a briefing covering the event details, safety aspects, and the inherent risks of spins and crashes. Following that, the KartQuest management reminded the participants on the importance of safety and to exercise extreme caution on the wet track.

There were three awards up for grabs by the participants, namely the Fastest Time Award, Best Slide Award and the WTF! Award. This got the participants all hyped up to do the best. The objective of the event was not to gauge the fastest karter around the track but rather to provide the participants the opportunity to learn kart control at the limits in a safe and controlled environment besides instilling confidence in low traction driving environments.

Everyone was seen to be enjoying themselves despite the numerous spins and crashes. All in, the event was a success in terms of participation and enjoyment level. Everyone had loads of fun on the track and vowed to try wet karting again in the future.

At the end of the event, the trophies was presented to the below:-

· Fastest Time Award – The karter that clocked the fastest lap time.
Muhamad Hafizul B. Muzelan

· Best Slide Award – The karter that impressed the judges with his/her slide.
Alex Yue Chee Foh

· WTF! Award – The karter whom the judges think is a total nutcase on the track.
Muhamad Hafizul B. Muzelan

Muhamad Hafizul won the judges vote for the the WTF! Award via his one leg in the air antics while going sideways which subsequently sent him crashing hard into the tyre barriers.

The wet go-kart race proved to be a success with the support gathered from the participants and KartQuest. In the future, more of such events will be planned and executed for its members.
