Saab Joins SUV Club
It seems that the SUV segment is just too attractive to ignore and just about every manufacturer has come up with an offering. The segment has not stopped growing since the early 1990s and had even inspired Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volvo and Porsche to develop SUVs.
Now even Saab, the other Swedish automaker, is coming out with a SUV, to be designated the 9-7X. Besides a drawing, few details are known at this time, though official information indicates that it will have all-wheel-drive and two engine choices. Being a part of the GM group, it will most likely use engines from Opel but whether it will also share a platform remains to be seen.
The Saab 9-7X will make its world debut at the New York Auto Show in April 2004 and will go on sale about one year later. Initially, the 9-7X will be produced specifically for the United States and Canadian markets. It will be built at a GM plant in the USA from the first quarter of 2005.
