Honda Malaysia Thinks of Elderly and Less Fortunate

Honda Malaysia is conscious of its corporate citizenship in this country and as a company which values the support of the community it does business in, Honda Malaysia wants to give back something as well – and not just with fine lower-priced cars alone.

In line with this philosophy, the company recently donated a specially-built version of the Honda Odyssey MPV to the Kuala Kangsar branch of the Central Welfare Council of Peninsular Malaysia. The hand-over ceremony was held during a dialogue between Minister of International Trade and Industry Dato’ Seri Rafidah Aziz and the community of Kuala Kangsar, Perak.

The special Odyssey, imported from Japan, is the Odyssey Almas and it comes equipped with features that cater to the needs of the elderly and the physically challenged. Such variants are part of Honda’s model range in Japan and reflect the carmaker’s sensitivity to the needs of the less fortunate in society, enabling them to enjoy freedom of mobility.

The Odyssey Almas, which costs around 3 million yen in Japan (about RM96,600 in Malaysia, excluding import duties), has a special seat-lifting mechanism that allows easy adjustment of the seat’s height to match the height of a wheelchair. With this function, the physically challenged can enjoy more convenience in their daily lives. Another special feature of the car is the easy storage of wheelchairs which can be secured neatly with a net.

The Almas variants are available for a number of other Honda models as well and provide the less fortunate in society, especially those who may not have full use of their limbs, to move around and enjoy life with their friends and families.
