See the Austin Powers movie, Drive a Mini Cooper to PD
Want to drive the new Mini Cooper? You are halfway to doing so when you go and see Goldmember, the new Austin Powers movie at GSC MidValley MegaMall in Kuala Lumpur which opens on August 15th. Then count the number of GSC popcorn boxes inside the Mini Cooper that will be on display at the cinema foyer, answer two simple questions and complete a slogan. You’ll also need two GSC MidValley ticket stubs for movies that have been screened this month to participate.
The person who makes the right guess or closest one gets to not only drive the new Mini Cooper but also gets an all-expenses paid weekend for two at Avillion Village Resort in Port Dickson… but you have to give it back after that (unless you love it so much that you want to buy it over)
The connection with the movie, which is a spoof on Goldfinger, is through the fact that a Mini Cooper is used in the movie by Austin Powers’ father, Nigel. And the actor is none other than Michael Caine, who made the original Mini famous in The Italian Job. This time round, Caine shows the prowess of the latest Mini which has a Union Jack painted on it too.
The ‘Austin Powers Mini Groovy Weekend Contest’ is jointly organised by Auto Bavaria, the official Mini distributor in Malaysia, and Golden Screen Cinemas. There are also 50 Consolation Prizes of goodie bags containing an exclusive Mini cap and T-shirt set, an original movie soundtrack and a GSC movie pass to be won.
Auto Bavaria and GSC have also tied up with a radio station to run an Austin Powers impersonation contest on air and on ground from August 5 to 16, 2002. Radio listeners will have to call up the station upon hearing the cue to call and mimic the swinging international mystery man to win two tickets to a special screening at GSC MidValley on August 16, 2002. Winning callers who attend the special screening will also get a chance to participate in the contest.
“The new Mini Cooper’s size, speed and manoeuvrability promise to create a whole new type of car chase in the world of movies. As Michael Caine’s character, Nigel Powers, aptly put it: ‘it’s not size that matters but how you use it’,” Auto Bavaria general manager for sales and marketing, Tunku Badlishah bin Tunku Annuar.
Prices for the fully-imported Mini range from RM130,000 for the entry-level Mini One, RM155,000 for the sportier Mini Cooper and RM185,000 for the flagship Mini Cooper S.
Movie-goers will also get to see a number of other cars, including Austin’s infamous Shaguar, a classic Jaguar XKE also painted with the Union Jack, as well as a newer model, the XK8. The evil Goldmember also owns a very personalized version of the electric Corbin Sparrow while his contractor, Mr. Roboto, utilizes an entire fleet of the vehicles at his evil factory. Along with the flashy and kinky cars, be sure to watch out for the latest BMW and Ducati bikes, plus some of the hottest little Vespas on the road.
