CJ Mac Eyes Novice Title in Silverstone Tarmac Rally Round 1

Newcomer to tarmac rallying, CJ Mac is eyeing the Novice title in the forthcoming Silverstone Tarmac Rally Championship, Round 1 this weekend in Taiping. CJ originally planned to go with his brother Chung Hui for the whole championship, but work commitments split the pair. The beneficiary of this is Bernard Tan, also a relatively new recruit into the sport with one event under his belt.

CJ Mac is entered in a Proton Putra 1.8, which is also is daily commuter to and from work between Petaling Jaya and Klang. The car is running almost stock save for an SMT (Smart Tuner) ECU controller, and a set of mild street cams. A set of RG suspension valved to ‘rally’ setting has also been fitted to improve handling.

Said CJ, “This is my first real event, and I am aiming just to finish,” “ Of course if I win the novice title, it would be a nice especially for my sponsors,” he added. CJ’s car carries Nando’s colours.

CJ has been in secret training for the last two months under the coaching of an ex-rally driver whose identity has been kept very secret.

The Silverstone Tarmac Rally will take place in and around the Taipnig and Kamunting areas this weekend. Scrutineering and convoyed recce of the stages will be from 0900 hours on Saturday 11 May, while the actual event shall take place on Sunday 12 May. The start and finish venue will be at the Silverstone tyre factory at Taiping. The total stage kilometers will be approximately 52 kilometers, and the route offers some very spectacular spectator viewing.

As of yesterday, more than 40 entries have been received, and this list includes some very familiar names in rallying.
