Doing its bit as a good corporate citizen, Toyota distributor UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd has donated a total of RM146,722.48 to the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia and Rumah Keluarga Kami. The two organisations received equal shares of the sum which represented the gross proceeds of the 1999 Toyota Classics, a series of live concerts which UMW Toyota Motor and Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan organise each year.
Presenting the cheques to representatives of the two organisations at UMW Toyota Motor’s head office in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, was the company’s Chairman, Dato’ Haji Rahmat Jamari. The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia was represented by its Chairman, Dato’ Dr G.A. Sreenevasan while Rumah Keluarga Kami was represented by Mr Watson Peters, its Deputy Chairman.
“As a responsible corporate citizen in this country, we have been and will continue to play an activerole in contributing and giving back to the society which we are conducting our business in,” said Dato’ Rahmat. “We aim to do more than just meet customers’ needs and requirements and have taken it upon ourselves to initiate activities to help the less fortunate in Malaysian society.”
Since the first Toyota Classics in 1990, UMW Toyota Motor has raised more than RM2.6 million, all of which has been donated to various charity organisations over the years. The company will again be holding the event towards the end of this year.
