1. First, you must be able or mentally prepared to tolerate and be patient with the situation of under-power performance: Based on my regular highway usage and after-service centre inspection, l can’t achieved the maximum speed of more than 110km/hour or 3.0(x1000) RPM, if you traveled on slanting or hilly road condition especially in the Ipoh part of highway. Please don’t waste your diesel even if you press the accelerator to the maximum. It just can’t go as l expect it for a 2500cc vehicle. On the normal highway, 140km/hr or 3 RPM is the maximum l can go !
2. Accept the fact that old vehicle of it same model or may be other brand old vehicle will easily exceed your new car performance expectation when you travel on the highway , Just like my experience , other older 4wheel car which bear the number plate of WPS of other brand can easily overtake my unit bearing plate number WTT easily while traveling on PLUS highway. May be there are some extra hidden security feature installed in my Hilux unit to encourage me not to speed on highway!!!
3. Thirdly, be prepared to spend more of your time to send it to the service centre for problem inspection due to the service centre that equipped with qualified personal to attend to it . As in my experience, they will ask you to send it back for whole day car inspection after l had complained but the end result is the same with the under-performing condition. Am told that my Hilux is in normal condition and the rest of their other units are the same performance as mine, so ask me to accept the fact of it !!!
4. Don’t expect any product explanation on the car features because you are expected to read the given car manual thoroughly on your own. For example, as in my experience , l was not even guided or instructed on the feature of the 4-wheel gear usage during purchase or delivery or after-sales service. Even you asked the servicing technician …they can’t scantly told me the actual application.
5. Don’t stick to one fixed Toyota service centre even though if you are inconvenient in sending it to other location , In my situation, due to my working location, l have to send to the nearest service centre for regular service but after the third 10,000km service , l found that my vehicle can’t perform as the condition of before-service instead deteriorating ! Now l have to send my car to other city for checking and may be re-service to find out what wrong with this under-power performance even l have hectic time table.
6. Before you buy, must go for car test driving! My previous ownership of Toyota Vios told me that Toyota brand carried much weight in term of reliability and trust-worthiness in it product performance satisfaction, that is the reason why l trust and bought this Hilux without test drive. But now, the situation is unpredictable, l am deeply regret!!!
7. Don’t trust fully what advertisement that depicted. “ 2500cc with D-4D technology features a common-rail injection system that delivers atomized diesel at high pressure for a cleaner, more powerful combustion, for that extra punch in performance when you need it. This technology results in greater fuel, economy, smoother power and cleaner exhaust emissions” Based on my experience, l don’t buy it anymore!
8. Pride of ownership = Shame of ownership. I can’t feel any pride or satisfaction of owning it due to all the above situation . A small family car with less that 1000cc can easily exceed my Hilux maximum speed.
9. Be prepared for extra budget of disposing it if can’t fixed the problem. I am very disheartened and disturbed now because my work required me to travel extensively and the transport l have been eagerly want it can’t deliver and eventually it had affected my work performance. Now l had to but find the best way to dispose or get rid of it and incurring additional cost or expenses to replace with other brand of 4-wheel car.
10. Think twice ! Think Thrice don’t get regret like me ….if want to own it !!!!

It is very subjective to define under-power term. I drove my uncle hilux with bigger donut, i can reach 160km/h but it is a bit slow to reach that speed....
If u compare it with nissan frontier/navara... YES, it is underpower....

Dear dennyyap,
hilux is lighter than most 4x4 and should get at least 160km/h, if cannot then somewhere/something must be wrong. but if you can't solve it in the last 4 month...better sell/change or whatever..
NIK
(ps..bro ..join my gang..RX270xdi..max speed at least 190km/h anytime , luxury somemore..hihihihi)

If you check out http://www.carsplusp...cab_4x4_srx.php , the official spec do stated 150kmh as top speed, so getting 140kmh for your top speed is quite reasonable. Bear in mind that Hilux is a pickup that is targeted for offroad and rough terrain usage, which usually have higher torque for acceleration power rather than speeding on highway. I would think it is quite dangerous to you and other road users if your hilux managed to go beyond 160kmh.
If top speed is more important to you, you should consider SUV instead of a pickup. SUV is actually more comfortable traveling on highway and go off-road easily too. My Rexton reached 160kmh easily in comfort.

Dear all,
Here is one of the reason too :-

or
http://www.mudah.my/...XDi-6782161.htm
then
I can't find the link, but it is said that Hilux is build to last, so if you see previous Hilux (older generation)is purposely build underpower with simpler engine so it wont torture the drivetrain. By building a 4x4 with lower power and stronger drivetrain it is almost certain the owner won't damage the car!!!!!! You will notice this by seeing still so many above 15years HILUX on the road today!!!
2010 Hilux 2.5 is 140HP, before only max 102HP, like Bro r3xt0n said Hilux is not build for speed and with open cargo at the back it is quite dangerous to achieve 160km/h ..
Cheers

If got chance, I'll snap some photos of my friend's Unichipped Hilux, 150bhp. He spent RM3k+ on this for his Diesel Auto.

For RM3k he should go for ECU remap but i'm not sure it can be done on Toyota. mine the wheel hp alone over 150bhp
