"I did experienced the same problem like kenso mentioned..."intermittent loss of power and juddering for about 1 second.." few times since I took the delivery of my 308THP last August, 09. Lodged a complaint during my car service at Glenmarie but no solution was given. Any advise from bros here? If this incident happens during overtaking..."

Seems that I`m not the only one experiencing this problem (and BB Glenmarie had the cheek to tell me mine is the first ever complaint of this kind). So far, the blame has fallen to

1) faulty battery (proven not true)
2) faulty valve cover which causes engine oil leakage (proven not true)
3) faulty spark plugs (proven not true)

Anyone else experience this issue and how to resolve it?

P.S: woody100, if u were overtaking and your car has this issue, my recommendation is to use tiptronic, downshift to 3rd gear then accelerate. I notice my issue ONLY happens in 4th gear at 2,600rpm. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear no problems.

same here altho its very very hard to replicate the problem...i've experienced it on maybe a handful of occasions (under 10 i wud say).....the reason i left it as it is is that its no point informing the SC bout it since it can't be replicated easily.

i think its the al4 trying to adapt to the situation and is undecided on dropping to 3rd gear or continue pushing at 4th....

It did happened to me once. I remembered quite well as I never had such experience. But only once. It is like the gb could not get to the right gear-shift. Instead of up-shift, it down-shift to 4th gear. So no power. Had to release the throttle totally and then press on again then it start to shift to the more powerful gear. My guess is that its related to the battery condition. AT that moment I was on a smaller battery. After I changed to the new battery, now it never happen again.

I had quite bad performance and engine knocking when using PrimaxRon95...But since I switch back to Ron97, the performance is better and no more knocking sound....What Petrol you all are using?

Life is short. Seize the day!

I don't quite understand what is the problem but since you're talking about overtaking, I think I'll share my experience as well. For the record, I don't know if this is the same case with yours or it just happens to me. It happens to me a few times during overtaking when the car feel like 'static'. What I mean by static is that the car didn't accelerate like I expect it to be once I floor the pedal (actually, it didn't accelerate at all). Then, after a second or so, the car will drop a gear and only then it will accelerate. I always thought that the situation is because of the gearbox characteristic and not a problem. Honestly, it makes me wonder because it's a dangerous situation. So most of the time when I'm about to overtake, I moved into tiptronic mode and downshift to 3rd.

I don't believe it is the gearbox adapting to situations as I doubt there are any auto manufacturers in the market that programs the car to register this effect as an engine fault, further classifying it as knocking issue. Secondly, while I could not replicate the issue, the issue seems to appear only under 1 condition (which is speed and rpm climbing up slightly over 90kph at 2,600rpm)

I would still bring this issue back to the SC as each visit is a documented effort from my part to resolve this issue. Nasim cannot say that (touch wood), after the warranty period and still the problem persists and would require an engine overhaul, I can claim from them that this failure to resolve this issue is not because of lack of trying from my part. IMHO, why take the risk by not reporting?

I guess most of you have experienced this (VTi or Turbo)

1. You are in D, climbing a hill. and you are in 3rd gear, struggling at about 2.5K RPM.
2. You push your stick to the left and pull it backward to downshift.
3. Instead of instantly downshift to 2nd gear and the RPM shoots up, you actually see the RPM drops to less than 2K RPM, and the car start shaking for a while, before the gearbox downshift to 2nd gear.

Seems like our AL4 gearbox is quite sluggish. Even in Tiptronic mode, everytime you want to downshift, the gearbox's lockup-clutch must engage first, before it downshift. Which is, in my opinion, a very LOUSY engineering design.

I concur that the slight lag in accelerating when flooring is due to the gearbox. I experience this many times. But of those times, never have I experienced engine juddering and loss of power (a opposed to having consistent power while the accelerator is depressed) while accelerating gradually which is the case when this fault appears. It is quite unnerving .... it's like u're suddenly on uneven road (ie yellow lines on the road) when the road is perfectly fine .... and this is when u're just gradually picking up speed, not even hard accelerating like in an overtaking maneouver.

I agree totally. In the industry I serve, customers are encouraged to feedback with as much detail as possible as to what problems they are experiencing to the dealer. Once the dealer receives the feedback, they code each issue into a system which feeds back directly to Caterpillar, the machine manufacturer. Gathering all this information from dealers around the world enables Caterpillar to identify product faults, make modifications, suggest inventory levels, identify local hot spots per issue, make product recalls etc etc.
Having said all that, it all depends on the dealer filling out the details and entering it into the system.
So for example, in Malaysia Peugeot owners have suffered early battery failures on the 308 model, with the system mentioned above, Peugeot France would be able to flag a problem with their product which is affecting Malaysia. Based on the facts like lets say a failure rate of 2 in 10, they still would re-evaluate one or two things:
A - The actual Battery spec versus electrical usage according to mileage and time or
B - Re- adjust the warranty terms for current owners or
C - Both of the above.

I believe that peugeot must have a similar system in place, after all, its all about product feedback, so in my opinion, its essential that problems such as those suffered by Kenso and friends should indeed be reported to Nasim. In an ideal world Nasim should be able to tell you that they have reported your problems to the manufacturer and are waiting on technical instructions. And as Kenso mentioned, once its reported to Nasim, one should keep a record of when exactly you reported it just in case you need to fight your corner once the warranty period has expired
The way to combat obnoxious ideas is with other ideas. The way to combat falsehoods is with truth.

i think there are two different problems been discussed here. One is Kenso engine problems which shall be reported and rectified and the other is the stupid gearbox design problem which cannot be rectified. On the stupid gearbox problem issue, i wud like to add i hate when gearbox try to lock up in 2nd gear because it is like a pause and affect our century sprint time. u lose like few miliseconds. smile_disapprove.gif
