Test drove the car yesterday. Not up to my expectation. The 1st thing is the 'keyless' entry system. I tot it is the same as Swift or Forte but NOT! The key chain hv to put in the hole beside the push start button! Me & the salesman took about 5 mins trying to start! The SID keep on show up 'press brake', 'push button' - 'remove key'. What the heck?? After tried several times...success! Put on R - dont hv reverse camera as Exora. Put on D...the was a lag 1-2 sec before the car can move.

The pick up is reasonable ok...but i managed to push the car @ 140km/h. At 110km/h tried to floor the accelerator, i cant feel the 'ummpphh' from the engine. The speed built up gradually without the 'urge of power' as in normal AT car nor the 308 Turbo!.

Ride & handling oso just ok ~ nothing to shout about. What i can say... Perve' is only a step better than Persona esp. its - roomier. The seat oso not comfortable - hard type same as Persona. The interior is plain cannot beat the Kia Forte! smile_approve.gif

Inspira i think is better.... juz my 2 cents. smile_tongue.gif

Re. Preve and the new Elantra
Personally I think the new Elantra is overpriced in comparison to vehicles of similar class, and the Preve is at a pretty unbeatable value at the moment. The Elantra 1.8 has a 108k price tag. I believe the 96k Elantra you are referring to is the discounted price of the 1.8.

Styling is subjective as both Preve and Elantra are equally good looking. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and the final choice will be down to personal preference. The Elantra's curves especially the rear tail light looks more feminine in comparison to the more macho Preve. I believe the Elantra's styling will appeal more to ladies.

As for performance and driving dynamics, although I have not driven both, perhaps the Preve will have the advantage here having the Lotus dna. The handling of the Preve being further tuned by Proton's in-house engineers(and perhaps with foreign expert's involvement), it may be the best handling vehicle Proton has come up with, as confirmed by early test drives of the early reviewers. As with the Elantra, the 1.8-litre engine will be less powerful than the 1.6 turbocharged CFE engine of the Preve. I have also read about the body-roll and soft suspension of it when taking corners at considerable speeds which hampered a more spirited and dynamic drive experience. Guess you'll be able to come up with your own conclusion once you've test-driven the Elantra this weekend.

I'm not surprised the driving dynamics of the Preve is superior to the bread and butter Vios and Mazda2 models. I believe most who chose Vios are only into the Toyota badge and good fuel consumption. In terms of spec and driving dynamics they are way down the ladder even when comparison is made to the cheaper Protons.

The Preve's performance is better than Civic and close to BMW? It must be something really special then. At RM73k surely a bargain.

Hi Ryder,
Followed your advice, went to test drive Elantra 1.6 and 1.8. Sellman told me the price was forced to sell at RM90k above as they are not allowed to be priced too close to Preve. No discount on Elantra at the moment, not at all.

New Elantra is rumored to be designed by German ex-BMW designer that designed my old time favourite BMW. It's more of a design of its own for exterior & interior wise. You'll soon see others copying it instead.

Handling wise, Preve should be good as it comes with multi-link rear whereas Elantra's handling passed requirements with high score too despite having torsion beam rear. Also, no turbocharger for Elantra's petrol engine, you have lower maintenance and the engine does not have to run at higher normal + operating at lower temperature.

Reliability & Durability wise, the Elantra is proven in hot extreme weather Arab desert, globally in all sorts of weather and even locally that gave Hyundai/Kia engines ranking closer to Toyota's reliability.

By the way, why compare Preve with Elantra that is priced at different range? Aren't you supposed to compare with RM80k category instead? Preve is supposed to be alternative to B-segment Japanese categories. Different consumers, different taste and preference.

And you believed that?

As far as I know all dealers would use that reason to justify why are their prices higher than Proton. I think that's crap.

Anyway I also tested the Preve yesterday and it was good. Soft padded dashboard and front door trims are of Excellent quality!

But the CFE turbo engine was a bit noisy. Perhaps Proton can put more sound deadening or make the engine quieter.

Cheers.

I try preve this morning. i find it good car to drive. Turning round the corner is better than Forte and Civic. But not so quiet as I wished. Forte dashbord inside is more better than other cars for the price. But preve is better for legroom and more planted.
The front part of preve look like passat and saga and savvy. Of all the cars why design to look like them? smile_blackeye.gif smile_blackeye.gif smile_cry.gif

If the engine is any good it won't be noisy when on stationary mode.

the comment like "...it won't last long, noisy engine, low quality parts, still using hydrolic p/w steering, low resale value..etc" still haunts many Ex & Present Proton owners. Those who bought Pesona High spec will be agree with me.

Test drive and by just looking at it and you will be IMPRESSED..but when you start owing it you will be DEPRESSED

maybe they are not confident and know the limit of the preve yet themselves as it is still new. some SA when you test drive their car, they ask you to do to your able confident extreme limit and when you are too slow they ask you to push harder if you only dare to.
