No .... VW has been very clear on it's CKD intentions. They are bringing in the first batch CBU merely as a filler, possibly as a gauge to see how the Malaysian public is responding to it (and its pricing). I think it is too expensive a price if confirmed exceeding RM150k, historically comparatively cheaper to older models or not. Remember the build quality IS compromised compared to earlier CBU models.
I am told that this pricing is not decided by VGM, instead it's the government that's preventing them from selling at the earlier indicative price of RM138,888. I am guessing if given a choice VGM would stick to that price scale and make a strong impact to the market. As it is, they probably can't justify the fact that it IS a CBU and may make an appeal later on to reduce the price once the CKD is launched. By then, the public would perceive VGM as a blood sucking conglomerate when the main culprit is someone else.
Regardless of the reason, it IS, IMHO over-priced. Reading c8pmw's jest about the conversation between a customer and a VW SA, I feel it is very true and can't help but feel I am suckered for paying so much (and standing to lose much more once the CKD model rolls out .... even possibly with new engine cylinder shut off feature ..... next year)

With that said, do you suppose there will be any changes in the specs for the CKD when they launch next year?
If the pricing for this batch of CBU is too high, and results with many refunding of bookings, what is going to happen to those cars? Will there be a possibility that they will sell them at a discounted price afterwards?

Sad to say that Daniel needs to update is data that the passat is a 7 speed and not 6 speed on the website.unless he is supplying the gearbox to vw.

Quite possible. Either in the form of unreg in 2012 with huge discount or to save their face in the form of prereg later this year

Let me share with how it works. Even not a single car is sold let say it wont be a problem as it will be shipped to neighbor country. Compare the prices of vw at Singapore. During the auto Dunia in 2004 there more than 10 units vw when they lost the franchise and they just need to ship the car to Singapore and it was all cleared.
On the other hand, info for everyone since my brother in law just came back for a visit last month from Germany. Vw Announce their sales is recovering but is the Asia sales that growing and not Europe. The reason is vw brand is so common in euro countries but new in Asia. Look at the recent bukit jail expo auto show when the queue was damn long to get in !!,
That is why a lot of Germany manfacturer has been waiting for this news and now it has come. The next 12 months will see a strings of new Germany suppliers coming into Malaysia. Since market over in euro has already matured.
My message to everyone is that vw is looking at asia for market growth for he next 5 years at least. Vw needs us to grow here in
asia market has been largely dominate by japanese make for the last 20 years. Now is a wind of change. In addition they don't have to worry about euro 5 fuel specs because we are not there ! All the green house and emission control and etc....
My message to vw malaysia also don't get too cocky! Sales is good but without good customer service it does not last.

Ah...same old story about the tax and protectionism of our beloved country...that's the reason why hybrid cars are so well received here...and the fact that we are getting the CR-Z earlier than the lion city explains everything

I can say that the Jett's can be sold at 138k but it was push higher due to other car make complaints. I can only say that the other make were enjoying a steep margin on the their sales and they argue is how can a cbu car is cheaper than ckd car. My answer to this is only 2 reason
1) vw is willing to make a loss for each car that is sold
2) the other ckd make that complaint does not want to give up their profit margin they have been enjoying all this years
Toyota Prado in 1997 ckd manfacturer cost is about 80k and was selling to end user for about 120k by umw Toyota.
I will let the public decide which correct?
