Good day all,

I just purchased myself a ZX 2.0i. Previous car was a Satria 1.3. Of course I don't need to tell you guys about the difference I felt but I'm worried about consumption of my car. I put in RM60 in the tank and after going about 100km, I noticed my tank went down to half. Is this a norm? Bear in mind that I was not revving the engine or driving in a massive jam. It was just normal driving. Any comments???

Regards

heretic... change the std items first... ie fuel filter, air filter, engine oil, gear oil etc. then see what your consumption is like... btw... what petrol u fill for RM60? V-power ah? i recommend NOT filling that particular petrol... also try to avoid driving until you petrol tank is empty... it could cause unnecessary problems... alwiz fill up at quarter tank...

Vonnig, I changed oil filter, air filter, engine oil, gear oil. I used Shell Sylkron. In fact, it's the first time I pumped in petrol. When I took the car, tank was empty. What sort of problem would emptying your tank cause?

also, bear in mind that the fuel gauge is not linear

perhaps drive ur car until the yellow light lights up.

normally, the light should turn on when u take a corner and the needle is near or at the yellow bar.

i find it a good idea to fill up when the yellow light comes on.

I normally put RM35 and I can get about 270-280 km(with air-cond off lah, coz it's dead!)

this is before the price rise.

rfbu, that's what my mechanic said as well. He adviced to drive until the fuel warning light comes on, but I'm getting pretty scared that I made a bad choice of car as it seems that this car drinks petrol like water. I did 20km and the meter went down to 3/4 tank initially. After which, from 3/4 to 1/2, it took another 70km. Anyway, this mechanic of mine seems to know what he's doin when I got this car and apparently, this car was a steal, for the price.

Eitherway, I seem to have a prob with my motion sensor. It does not work. I dunno if it was uninstalled by the previous owner or it is removed standard in this country.

And another thing, I keep hearing a relay going on and off when I drive sometimes. Normally, its after I put on one of my signals. Anyone faced this problem before?

err... is the motion sensor for the anti-theft system? I guess I don't have it, never knew there was supposed to be one!

relay sounds ah... don't notice relay sounds, I reckon relays go 'click-click'? if so, nope, can't help u there.

correct me if I'm wrong, but if the car can start, can idle without dying at the traffic lights, can go left and right AND reverse(meaning all the gears engage) air cond is cold, all the windows go up and down when expected, all the lights work, brakes work(meaning car stops when required to), doors + bonet, boot closes properly, indicators don't flash as and when they like while driving, tyres still having sufficient grooves ... then I suppose, dun werry so much, take ur time to troubleshoot it.

With regards to the unsatisfactory fuel consumption, I may be wrong (and I usually am wrong) , listening to your story, you tank was dry right? I`m no mechanic but it may be worthwhile to take your car to a competent mechanic to `bleed` the fuel line/system. Air pockets (trapped air) may be the cause for impaired fuel perfusion hence unbalanced combustion resulting in poor performance and poor fuel consumption. Just my theory (which I probably heard from someone else.) Members comments/criticism of my views are welcomed very much.

Bleeding Your Fuel System (plagiarized from somewhere)
(purging of air which caused shutdown)

Since the presence of air in the fuel system anywhere between the fuel tank and the injector will cause a no start of erratic running condition. Always bleed the air when the system is disassembled, filter changed or run out of fuel.
(1) Make sure fuel tank shut off is in "on" position.
(2) Bleed the air from fuel filter. Loosen the air bleed screw at the top of the fuel filter body and operate the manual handle of the lift pump until the air bubbles completely expel in the fuel flowing from the filter.
(3) Bleed the air from the fuel return pipe installed on the fuel injector, and bleed the air by operation the manual handle of the lift pump. (If there is more than one injector, bleed the one at the end of the line).
(4) Bleeding the air from the fuel line - ( line from the filter to the injector pump). Loosen the air venting screw at the injection pump and operate the manual handle of the lift pump until all the air bubbles are out.
5. Bleed the air from the fuel injector. Loosen the nipple on the fuel injector side, set the throttle to half and the decompression lever to the decompression position and crank engine. When no more bubbles appear in the fuel flowing from the end of the injection pipe, re-tighten the nipple.

Can Ah Keong and the likes do the bleeding? I`m interested in bleeding my fuel line after running dry trying to impress you guys with that damned gadget.

Take back message-Never try to set records. You end up dry, broke but then again, who cares.
Thanks
-spygame.

well guys, do you know how to solve the problem of a jumping fuel gauge, that means it moves when u take a corner. is changing the fuel tank float the solution?
how can i make it like other cars that moves according to the fuel consumed....

if you dun want the float to move... buy fuel in solids... if ever there was... then for sure your float won't move... it is unlikely that a float will not move... unless you have a toyota or nissan... whichever lar... coz the fuel moves around in the fuel tank... i'd rather the thing move for me to know that there really is fuel in the tank than to find out that the darned thing was faulty and therefore moves slow... be happy with what you have... i dun like those stupiak fuel gauges that stay on top for a long time even though you've driven to bangkok and back then it finally drops very fast to tell you that you have no petrol left... worst is that there is no petrol station nearby...

as for the fuel consumption thingy... another problem could be caused by the fuel injectors... it's been known to increase fuel consumption if it is faulty... dun ask mw how it does so... but it just does... those are the next thing you should change before the fuel pump...
