Spec and price wise.. it can be a good option.. minus the amp.. anyone have tried to replace the old head unit with a portable tablet instead?

dun quite catch what u mean, u r going to use ur tablet as hu or for the entire system?

cheap n good. update the softwares are so simple.
for low cost option
1. tablet or hphone
2. hphone holder [rm18]
3. audio cable [rm20]
if your audio system don't have a aux-in socket
3. fm modulator with aux in {for audio] rm45

IMHO, I think the sound reproduction from the tablet versus in-car unit has a lot of difference. Likewise too on brand to brand tablets or phone, for that matter. It all got to do with the processor in the phone and the in-car head unit. For the discerning listeners, they may hear some glaring difference where the song played are so rich and bassy from a tablet than the in-car unit. Anyway, tablet is a cheap way to do it as compared with a total head unit change over.
