Hey Carlson,
I understand how you feel trying to move into the Superbike hobby. I got hooked on the superbike since Uni days especially with the ZZR1100 but coming from a mediocre family, i need to dream of it for a few years, before this dream can come true. In fact, i m only able to afford my first bike, after 6 yrs working, THAT ALSO forcefully buy one. Hehehe ..... but i m not desperate, for me, all my life, it is all about biking and i dont think this passion will die in me, even when in my olden days, so i won't rush into it.

Frankly first thing first when considering the superbike passion is always your POCKET. This is an expensive hobby !!!
And second thing, to be a responsible rider, your parent, family and your gf/wife will also need to accept you taking up this hobby.
Takes me about 5 years to convince my parent that it's safe riding a superbike, even fetch them around on it and i have an agreement with my gf then that all my life i will be riding, i married her after she agreed to it n join me riding around.

But I have read thru all the comment here, maybe you cannot figure out how expensive this hobby yet, figuratively.
Hence just so you have a rough idea, here's a certain breakdown :

Generally for a 600cc and above bike :
Road tax : Rm350 (>800cc) Rm270 (<800cc)
Insurance : Rm1500-Rm2000 (If you do not have an NCD)
Tyres : Rear >RM600 Front >RM400 change every 1 yr to 1.5 yrs, depends how you ride
BASIC Maintenance Service Every 3000-5000km {No Part Replacement} Rm300+
Battery : Rm300-500
Part Replacement in term of price steepness
1. Italian Bike {Ducatis, Aprillia}
2. Austria Bike {KTMs}
3. Japanese {Yamaha, Kawa, Honda .... etc.}
4. Korean {Hyosung, Naza .... etc}

Safety Protection {not too branded but above average ones and you need to considering affording this before the bike !!}

Helmet : >RM1000 {you dont want to get some capalang brand la}
Jacket : >RM400
Boot : >RM400
Penz : >RM300
Glove : >RM150

Frankly no worries, this passion leh, Rich man got Rich man's way of playing, Poor man got poor man's way of playing hehe.

For me I don't want to waste time and lost in depreciation considering the 250s range of bike but because of this, i will need to wait for a few more years but i never stop riding kapcai. This is important to keep your on the road riding sense n experience.
I want to get something 600cc n above.
So i consider getting a >10yrs old big bike but durable and lower maintenance since affordability is an issue.
My first big bike is the Vulcan 800 Classic. Got it for a few years, ride it abit, repair also quite a bit but still OK.
After about working for 12 yrs, i finally can afford a DECENT Superbike.

With a RM1500 income, you can always start off with the 250cc NOW, or wait a few more years to jump start into the 600cc n above bike. OR you can take loan and get a >600cc bike but old models but still performs decently like

Vulcan 500
Vulcan 800
Virago 500
CBR600F3
CBR600F2
Yamaha Vmax 1200
Suzuki SRAD GSXR750 {try to avoid this}

These models are old but in the <Rm30k range but they are low maintenance which is a good start for newbies in Malaysia.

May your search for your Superbiking passion comes true ....... good luck smile.gif
Cheers, Windz

Hi windz~

Thanks for ur "more overall" opinions, ya u're definitely right~ each person got their own ways to keep up with this hobby. Same like u, I'm from mediocre family too~ but I'm abit luckier coz I dun need to face family restrict problem n I know some ppl who is experienced in this line n got many "lubang" to save more money.

But when it comes to opinions, I wish to hear n see more how ppl comments~ I know some of my friends might be helpful but they're prejudice on specific brands, that's y I can't rely on them n come into forums~

Actually my require on bikes is simply only~ I'm not those type of guys that like to be vanity n always go for the top ones. My own concept is juz wan a simply, affordable, reliable, practical bike only. Doesn't matter it is a new or old bike, I can accept any bikes~ haha

Hope u all don't mind I ask alot of questions, bcoz I dun wish to get the wrong bike for my first time (due to my income). I juz wanna get all the researches, n decided which bike to start~

P/S : Did u juz mentioned a yamaha vmax 1200??? R u kidding me??? That bike cost below 30k n easy to maintain??? Don't make me too excited wor hahaha XD

Ya ka?

Ok- Majesty.

It is all these things and more and won't kill your finances. Both winds n me have picked up on the fact that this is EXPENSIVE if you do it wrong and you don't have an awful lot of spending power to do expensive right now. Just get that Majesty for now and go where you want to go, do what you want to do and save a whole bunch of $$$ doing it. Have your fun first and worry about looking good when you can afford it.

Don't do what I did and go for stylo-milo right out of the box before I knew what I really wanted. I ended up with the sexiest-looking sportsbike on earth (pic attached- that's my ACTUAL bike) only to discover I wanted to do long distance touring and the bike gave me back-and-bum ache after just 1 hour on it.... so now for sale la pulak!

Get the Majesty first, do your jalan-jalan cari makan and if it turns out you prefer flinging the thing around corners then sell it (you won't lose much- price at rock bottom already) and top up and get your 250cc sportbike, but if it turns out you like touring then keep using it until you can afford that ER6 or Versys I was telling you about.

Banyak choice bro...... but you don't want to kill yourself financially (or physically) going after them. Part of the reason I'm pushing Majesty so hard to you is because it's cheap to buy, cheap to run and there's a very strong owners group which will help you maintain the bike and show you many lubang to keep it running cheaply.

Others, I dunno....... it's just that the Majesty guys (I know- I also have one) are very helpful and very knowledgable. With them, the price of the bike and how far it can take you in a day, it's a good START to biking..... you don't have to keep it forever bro.

Don't be like me la.... mau style, then sakit bontot...... now mau jual. Rugi weh!!

Tell you what... since you're not all on fire about the Majesty, why not post on the Majesty thread on this page and join the guys for a TT?

You can check the bikes out for yourself and hopefully that will light a fire in you. They really are amazing little bikes which will get a lot done and very cheap too!

If you still feel cold then come back here and we'll chat some more. I realise there's no point pushing you so hard to something that doesn't excite you.... even if you buy you'll not be happy.
