This is actually a very tough call. Im pretty unbiased as i have owned 2 previous VWs and 2 previous Fords...so heres my 2 sen

at a 16k premium, i would take the Jetta over the Focus. primarily because, fit and finish is no.1 priority to me, and to me, the thai sourced Focus is a significant step below the jetta, we spend the entire time sitting in the damn car, might as well enjoy a luxurious cabin.

BUT thats me... if power and drivability is what you are after, then the 2.0 NA engine of the Focus is a nicer engine, the 1.4 tsi runs out of puff too early at higher revs, which is one of the reasons i sold my 1.4 roc

Dont worry about the DSG, if it fails, u just claim under warranty, thats what warranties are for.

end of the day, which car made you turn back to look again? i think you cant go wrong buying either car

Thanks guys.

Jwrx, you mentioned about the 1.4 TSI running out of puff early. Can you elaborate more? I notice that in reviews, this car is able to hit 200km/h. An NA engine is definitely more proven in terms of reliability compared to a TSI.

I think he is referring to rev about 5500 onwards to 7000 especially in the sport mode. I test drive the s max, focus and Kuga before, the 2.0 ecoboost will start running out power around 4500 to 5000 rev which us earlier than tsi. For me, i will take the Jetta. Just make sure 1 thing if you decided to go for Jetta, wait until the temp gauge reach 90 befero pushing hard so the wear and tear of the piston ring will be minimum.

Thanks for the advice. Don't think I'll push anything hard when cold. There are a lot of theories on how to drive the DSG (eg. don't leave at D at traffic lights, don't let the car creep without apply accelerator, etc.) but not sure if any are proven to help.

When the ecoboost ran out of power around 4.5 to 5k rpm, the car should already be at 200km/h right?
