Yes, tailgating is an offense and is dangerous but so is road hogging.

No. 1 Rule on the highway

"Ikut Kiri jika tidak memotong"

If overtaking on the fast lane and kena tailgate and high beam, then tailgater is an idoit.

If not overtaking but hogging on the fast lane and kena tailgate and high beam, then hogger is an idoit.

All depends. Kind of agree there are many harassers on the highway, can be both hoggers and tailgaters. Tat's why 'upgraded' to pickup. Kind of eliminate from being target by most harassers on highway smile_tongue.gif

Yup, right lane is overtaking lane. I drive 110kph on the highway on middle lane. If there is one doing 100kph, then I overtake on right lane then go back in to middle lane and continue at 110kph..... smile_tongue.gif

Same style with me.

Dear James or is it Paul,

I dislike replying too many times to a specific individual but the rules of the highway are simple.

Always give way to a faster vehicle.

I have given way at speeds in excess of 160 km/h to a faster car (think it was either VR2Turbo or Rally Champ going close to 200 km/h).

By maintaining the legal speed limit at the Right Lane when there is a faster car behind you, you are Road Hogging. If you can't be faster than the car behind, get the hell out of the way.

All the fellow drivers here who agree with this mantra, please indicate so and if you disagree, then please also tell me so. For all I know, what I have been doing for the past 15-years is wrong and I should start doing the right thing. Never to late for me to learn the errors of my way.

Some general definitions of 'road hogging'

You are free to keep to the speed limit of 110 km/h if you wish. Just don't go to the Right Lane and maintain that speed when you can see that there is a faster car coming behind your rear view mirror.

If you are already at the Right Lane and a faster car wants to overtake and the middle lane is busy, speed up past 110 km/h and put your left signal so that the car behind knows that you are going to move to the middle lane.

If you have no intention to move to the middle and intend to stick to the speed limit of 110 km/h, then you are plain selfish and one day, I pray that when you are rushing for an medical emergency, you don't get stuck behind an equally selfish driver like yourself. What goes around comes around.

Your thoughts are correct, my driving is similar, if I cannot maintain the 110km/h on the right lane and a faster car is coming up from behind, I can move to the middle lane after signalling to the drivers on the left. I think this is respecting every driver on the road, otherwise it is plain rude.

One thing I would like to add. I'm not the fastest driver on the road. When a car comes fast from behind, I do always give way. However, the caveat is, I am required to switch lanes responsibly. Only when it is safe would I switch lanes. The faster cannot force his way through by intimidating a slower car. That is actually legally wrong. I ignore these drivers and look to the left to focus when best I could switch lanes to let the impatient car ahead.

When I'm behind a slower car on the right lane, I indicate right for 3 seconds, but only when I see that the lane left of his lane is clear enough for him to move left. If the guys doesn't take the opportunity to move when he could many times over, then he's a road hog. Though sometimes, its just a really old person.
