They have a new D-Max which should have the same interior as the Colorado. It's the only serious competitor to the Ranger, IMO, but it's just been launched and I booked my Ranger last year so it was never an option for me.

I am a regular passenger of my colleague's Ranger. I am also his passenger while he tested the new Dmax, i can say Ranger has the better feel in terms of comfort, engine noise and solid feel of the body especially the doors.

roocrrol,
Did you instal a canopy on your Ranger ?

I tested the new D Max, and it was a let down. Fee underpower and noisy engine, aircon also not good. Then, went to test drive the new BT-50, engine noise much more quieter. Its GB also shift much more quicker. I am amazed with its level of safety features that even the new Ranger does not carry here. I also tested the new Ranger 6 SP manual but aircon effciency was not good as compares to the BT-50 and also I tested the Triton low rider, 5 SP manual.

To my surprise that Mazda and Ford dealers that I went did not have demo cars or trucks for customers to test drive. How they going to convince people to believe and subsequently place the booking fee is everyone's guess. Cheers.

Hey Scenic, how are you doing?

Yes, I installed an Alpha GSE.

I know that the BT-50 has traction control. Does it have other safety features that the Ranger lacks?

I'm not sure about the manual but I'd assume that the auto and manual have the same air con. I've had to turn the air con off a few times because I was so cold even when it was on the lowest setting. I guess manual air con kinda sucks. Is it possible to upgrade to auto air con?

I went to the Mazda at Glenmarie thinking that they'd definitely have test drive units but they didn't. The sales girl didn't seem to know that much about the BT-50 and I got the feeling that Mazda aren't that interested in selling it in Malaysia. It's the mechanical twin of the Ranger + traction control so the BT-50 is a better buy but my heart kept shouting RANGER, RANGER, RANGER so I figured I would probably end up staring enviously at Rangers if I got a BT-50.

PJ Ford definitely had a test drive unit a few months ago. I test drove the Ranger with them twice before I decided to buy.

Hi,

Where can I find a replacement for a "reverse sensor" button of a Ford Ranger?

I just noticed this morning while parking my ranger, the reverse sensor "audio" sound "off". On checking, found one of the "Reverse Sensor" Button on the rear bumper was missing. It either had dropped off because of poor installation or someone had nicked it!

I hope I do not have to replace the whole system just because of a "button". Wuld most appreciate your help. Thanks

Jayraptor,

I appreciate your comments on the Ranger and thank for sharing with me the maintenance costs of the old Ranger. I have not maintain a Ranger before but I do know the old Ranger is very reliable. But that is with old engine. The new Ranger is using new engine and a new gearbox, how can we gauge if these stuff will not fall apart?

FYI, Hilux may not be the worst. The new upcoming D-max may push 2.5L VGT to 320Nm only. We will not get the 400Nm version that European countries are getting (bi-turbo diesel) due to our poor diesel quality.

I have done my research on Ranger in anticipating of buying one but have to put on hold over some problems.

Service cost of first 10k Service Interval. You can see it uses 8.6 Litres of engine oil. Yes, something is wrong right? 2.2 using more engine oil than 2.5! SDAC cannot provide good answer to this.

Latest is they charge RM 50 per litre, but still quite expensive. Remember first 3 service is free labour.

Secondly, rusty fuel injectors. Some Rangers affected. SC still does not have answer to solve this.

Third, gear shift jerky.
Fourth turbo lag <- Apparent for early acceleration after speed bump.

And lastly, don't know if this is an isolated issue:

Still awaiting answer.

I am not a Hilux fan or intended to buy one but I give credit to where it is due. In this case, a reliable pick-up and workhorse - definitely Hilux.

Hi.

I noticed that Ford is using Castrol Magnetac Pro A5. This lube can be used in both petrol and diesel too?

I plan to use this in my turbo diesel and wondered if its ok. Please advise.

Hi,

Lately the "Transmission Warning Light" on the dashboard of my Ford Ranger will light up intermittently say after a drive of 200+km.The car manual indicated this is serious, must be addressed at the workshop immediately. But as what anyone will do, I will stop, switch off engine and re-start. The warning light will disappear, and sometime will light up again after say 30km or at times, it does not at all. The car however at all time drives as usual.

I had send it to a Ford Service center. They couldn't find any fault and do an oil change for the transmission, using the factor spec Motorcraft ATF LV - this being the ATF recommended in the manual. However, this "Transmission Warning Light" coming on intermittently still persist. The oil change was not the solution.

Bros; - anyone of you Ford Ranger's owner encountered this problem? What does the sensor which will light up the "Transmission Warning Light" measure? Is it temperature of the ATF oil?

I was told by a fellow Ford Ranger's owner to change the battery? In his case, his "transmission warning light" lighted up when his battery was drained. And all was fined with a battery change.

Humble thanks in advance for your guidance.
