RX8 would be a good car as well, but you need some basic knowledge on how to maintain a rotary engine to keep the car in tip top condition

there was a problem in US with the 2005 RX8 model, but only in the US, due to the oil spec and cat damage from the emission control standards. Basically the car was badly tuned by Mazda to comply with the emissions. I don't think other RX8's in other countries were affected so no issue with "the engine has to be rebuilt every 100k".
I have a 2009 RX8 series 2 auto and it's the best car I have ever driven! You can take corners in this car at really crazy speeds and it never loses it! Looks pretty cool too! I don't think I can get the same buzz from a Civic.

there's a lot of other makes of modified and thrashed performance cars on the market I would stay away from also! Like everything else, check before you buy. Anyhow, with only 3 moving parts, the rotary is the easiest (and cheapest) engine to rebuild should you need to.
