The first time I realised was a few weeks ago when someone told me that my headlamp did not turned on, on the driver side. I didnt believe it coz when I switched on the headlights again, both turned on as usual.

Then on Saturday, on the way back to my house, I switched on the lights because it was raining. On the way I saw the reflection on the vehicle on front and I saw only one light is on. So I stopped at a petrol station and went out of the car. I snapped a photo of the incident. I then switched off and on again, the lights are on as usual - both of them.

This morning (Monday), the same thing happened again. I called the Toyota SC and asked my regular service personnel, he said to bring in the car for inspection. I asked him what could be the problem and he said it could be that the HID bulb is nearing to end its lifetime or probably some loose connection somewhere. Asked whether the bulb is covered under the warranty he said it is not but he assured me that they are going to look at this issue.

The HID bulb is estimated to cost around RM700+..

I wonder if other fellow Camry owner with HID light face the same problem?

That's the price for Xenon system. The price is OK, considering those Philip Ultinon 4300k D2S that Powerbulb is selling, costs close to RM600 inclusive of delivery. If you ask around in spare part shops for the same item, it will cost around RM700 and above too.

If UMW refuses to cover it under warranty or you're unwilling to pay that much, can always buy a new pair of D2S from Powerbulbs or get used ones from kedai potong (even cheaper).

Regards.

the HID system installed as OEM in the Camrys is covered by the same 3 years warranty that comes with the car.

it is not cheap because the buld is charged with xenon gas. the bulb has no filamen and therefore its unlikely to blow like halogen bulbs. main reason why it is given warranty.

other than the bulb itself there can be other possibilities like loose contact or defective ballast. get it checked first, it may not necessary be the bulb so put aside all assumptions.

being UMW, it does not surprise me so much that they are sellng the bulb at such figure. again, we need to understand if ah chong opens up 30 workshops all over malaysia...or 30 spare part shops with 90 staff - he wont sell things so cheaply. but he can because he runs only 1 workshop with few mechanics. super low cost.

I have to take a leave yesterday to send in my car for inspection due to the mysterious incidences where my CAMRY 2.4V's HID headlamp failed on one side intermittently.

After a 3-hr check, I was told that the HID bulb is fine and that there are some 'loose' connections and that they have been tightened. In other words, the service centre is saying that there seems to be nothing wrong with my car's headlamp.

However yesterday evening I switched on the headlamp and drove for about 20 mins or so, and there it happen again! I took a video of this incidence but how am I going to show the video to TOYOTA?

Any forummer know any Toyota's email? I just want to proof my case.

I am not going to go to the service centre again if they cannot do anything serious to tackle this issue. It's a waste of my time and annual leave!

Seeking your advice.. smile_dead.gif

when you complaint to UMW Toyota, they will still refer you back to the service centre. the people at UMW HQ are not mechanics. they will not be able to diagnose the problem.

so be reasonable. dont act like a fool by asking the management at HQ level to sort out the problem. i know you are frustrated but a prime minister will not entertain problems we have with a malfunction lamp post in front of our house. he will still ask the PWD or local counsil to look into the problem.

my suggestion is for you to call the service centre again, and talk to the service advisor telling him about the problem. he will be busy most likely, so you can look up for the service manager if you want. you can e-mail him the video and he will decide how to assist you as this will be a come back job (CBJ) every workshop hates (because it means they are not good enough).

but try to understand one thing also. smile_big.gif a doctor will also get difficult to diagnose a sickness if it comes on and off like what you are facing now. be patient, ok?

if you really want to complaint to UMW Toyota, you can check at this link below

good luck!! smile_thumbup.gif

actually the price for HID is perfectly OK given by UMW..
even an aftermarket D2S bulb u sendiri buy outside also around that price..
dun forget also need to install and adjust it..
tats y only luxury cars have HID..thats the price to pay for..
want cheap go for halogen bulbs..less than RM100 per pair smile_blush.gif

as for ur case, mostly due to lose contact..as suspected..if the bulb gonna kong..
it only will get dimmer where times goes by..and wont suddenly ON/OFF smile_approve.gif
HID bulbs last longer than halogen..

Why not ask them to change the ballast meaning swap the ballast from left to right & observe. You may get this done at normal Ah Beng accessories for i think $20, & it it occurs on the right side after that, then u know where's the problem.

Got it?
