Swift is a good car. For that price point, I think nothing comes close. Good handling and comfortable. Should be a reliable and problem free car.

However, CKD quality is ok only. Be prepared for squeaks and rattles coming very soon. Also, if u don't mind getting overtaken a lot by Myvis, Vios and Citys frequently, because of it's lack of torque, then by all means it's a good car.

vios and city maybe, but Myvi ? smile_blackeye.gif
our 'stock' SS are capable of century dash below 12 secs and i can hit 150km/hr w/out much effort...with minor tune and tweak u can send this baby flying all the way to 180km/hr as reported by many SCM.... unless u are talking turbo-charged myvi...

Maybe so, if u are willing to endure the rough and not-so-sporty sound from the engine. It gets tiring after a while listening to the rough and coarse engine note at high rpms. I'm talking about SS here, not SSS.

The fastest I managed to bring the SS (stock) is up to just below 180kmh, that also have to labour all the way to reach that speed, and then to find myself being slowly but surely overtaken by an old Wira Aeroback. Not to mention that coarse engine noise. Sorry, but my definition of 'without much effort' is slightly different from yours from my perspective. smile.gif

Performance of a car is more than just 0-100 dash. 0-100 is academic only, for the feel good factor. What is important is the on the move acceleration and how easy it is to achieve that. Unfortunately, in the SS, it feels relatively harder to achieve than say a Myvi or Vios or City.

I'm not trying to kutuk the SS here, coz I also own one. Just this is how I feel about driving the SS. The good thing about this SS is the fun of driving it, and the relative comfort to mosey along.

smile_blackeye.gif smile_question.gif There are inter-related rite...
Century dash for city I-Vtec is 12 secs, city V-Tec around 10-11 secs, vios dugong 11secs plus....
But Myvi auto more than 13 secs....

also SS engine note on high rev. is much less coarse and loud compare to city & vios....except that we get the burning sensation or some say hair saloon smell smile_big.gif

I own a 1.3 litre CBU SS too. However, i don't think the engine is harsh relative to the latest gen City and latest gen Vios. I have driven all of them. My bro has a latest gen City, i have driven it a lot. From my driving, my little SS is the smoothest when high revving. Though i get the mentioned burning smell after revving hard. wink.gif

Why do I say 0-100 is not very important?? Let's take an example. As u said, century dash for city I-Vtec is 12 secs, city V-Tec around 10-11 secs, vios dugong 11secs plus....but Myvi auto more than 13 secs....

Ok, now let's put in a vehicle that's almost 2x heavier than any of the above - a Toyota Hilux, turbodiesel 2.5l around 100bhp only but torque in excess of 300nm, and the century sprint of this vehicle is > 15 seconds at least.

Based on the 0-100 dash paper specs, very likely that all of the above will smoke the Hilux. But yet, in a real situation, unless the Hilux driver is not gunning it, the Hilux will smoke any of the above in an in-gear acceleration scenario. So why is this so when the Hilux has inferior 0-100 dash capability?

That, fellas, is because of the Hilux massive torque, like almost 3x that of the cars above, and coming in at such low rpms. That's why I said that 0-100 times are purely academic coz in real life, what makes the car highly driveable and 'w/o much effort' is the torque more so than the power.

If a 1.5l car has a good spread of torque (which unfortunately the Swift doesn't possess), it makes it so much easier to drive in comfort instead of having to gun it hard everytime u wanna do some overtaking stunt. I think the Vios and City (especially the iDsi) has a better spread of torque than the Swift, making them much easier to accelerate on the move and overtake relatively easier than the Swift.

Sure, none of the above is as much fun to drive than the Swift, but reality bites hard smile.gif

Let's make a fair comparison basing on Tech. Spec.

SS 1.5 : 101hp, 133Nm @ 4,400rpm, weigh 1,030kg
City IDsi : 88hp, 131Nm @2,700rpm, (SOHC 8V with CVT 7-Speed), weigh around 1,060kg
City I-Vtec : 120hp, 145Nm @ 4,800rpm, weigh 1,160kg
Vios Dugong : 109hp, 141Nm @ 4,200rpm, weigh 1,050kg
MyVi SE : 87hp, 116Nm @ 3200rpm, weigh 960kg

The I-Vtec has a higher rev engine up to 6,600rpm and the rest stop at 6,000rpm to squeeze out all the juice....now calculate yourself by taking into consideration weight factor....true, SS may not have the best power band over here but to me, overtaking is done with ease and whenever i yearn for a spirited drive, she never fails me smile_approve.gif
