Things To Change On T5

I do expect some VO but i think some time have to learn to reject
recommendation by the contractors. Some of the renovation is now deemed
to be "over-spec" and pay extra $$$. The renovation cost is sufficient to
buy a condo/apartment in KL.

So now, have to save and wait for bonus before i can do any upgrade.
Lucky i have already reserve $$ for my wife delivery and after birth
expense.

I think the repair cost is quite reasonable looking at the Loooong list.
i believe you will enjoy the car.

I truly agree with gfc for envying you, for the budget that you have to
upgrade your car.

Actually no need to envy one, I'm just doing some necessary preventive
maintenance so that I won't be caught stranded halfway in the middle of
the road and to do corrective maintenance in the outskirts of town, it
would cost me alot more. It's not that easy to get a Volvo specialist
apart from those listed in VOCM, IYKWIM.

Anyway, both of you have better toys than me now but we should be happy
for each other as I believe no one can feel what we're feeling albeit for
a few months only.

Nohad, did the back panel (under the 3rd brake lamp) give you unceasing
noise problems ? The clips seem to have broken and if these no subsitute,
I don't mind changing the whole panel (how much ah?). From the forums,
HAKITRADE seems to have most of the spares, anyone has their e-mail
contact ?

My T5 back panel clips were changed at FA by the previous owner (my
friend). I saw the bill but I could remember the exact figure and if I'm
not wrong, the bill is somewhere around RM350/=. I have not faced any
noise problem from the back panel during my ownership.

Sent the T5 back to the workshop after changing the tyres. Last course of
treatment before washing and polish the car. Points to look into will be
the :
1) Rear panel mounting (noise - aaarrrggghhh)
2) Rear right passenger door cannot open from the inside
3) Horn needs to be pressed hard before they work
4) Roof indicator for seat belt sign, intermittent (must knock)

Question 1: How do we maintain the leather seats ? Is there some wax
that`ll help keep the texture soft (reduce cracks) and won`t stain the
clothes that come into contact with ?

Question 2: How low does the fuel gauge reach before the LOW FUEL WARNING
lamp comes on ? Mine is nearly touching red (Fuel gauge) now but the lamp
is still not on.

The leather seats can be maintained using a leather cleaner followed by an
oil. I think IKEA sells them but I'm not sure how much it cost.
Alternatively, you can send your car to those detailing shops for
maintenance of the leather seats, etc. Costs about RM300-00, though.

The low fuel warning will come on when there's about 8 litres or less fuel
in the tank. You'll find this info in the owner's manual page 1.3.

The rear panel in my T5 has been modified as I can see two screws with big
washers holding it in place. As for the door which cannot be opened from
the inside, do take a look to see whether the child lock has been
activated. This is a lever near the door catch. The need to press hard to
operate the horn could be due to some plastic thingy holding the contacts
being broken. Do be careful when dismantling the steering wheel as you may
set off the airbag (if there's one) & this airbag cost RN800-00 or so.

To access the wirings to the overhead indicator, you'll have to carefully
pry out the two lights to expose the two screws holding it in place. The
problem could be due to poor contact.

I'm sure that you'll find the above easy to rectify given your DIY
experience & training. Good luck.

Looks like you're a handyman yourself. The door is not set to child-lock,
so it could be one linkage which is broken inside the door. The clips
(bottom side) on the back panel needs to be orderd from KL along the
grille near the towing hook (bumper area), so yesterday I couldn't take
the car yet. Hopefully everything can be settled today and on the weekend,
I can enjoy a nice ride with the family. I will also check out a shop
which installs aftermarket leather seats and see if they have any
treatment solution for the seats. Will let you all know next week.

In the meantime, thank you all for the support and ideas and answers to my

I think you're right. There's a link (a 4-5 inches metal rod) which is
connected with a plastic which is prone to breaking due to our climate.
This happened to my GLT, both the driver's door and the one behind it.
What I did was to tie the rod in place with a piece of wire. There's also
a liklihood that the metal rod has dropped into the bottom of the door. I
used a magnet tied to a piece of thick wire to fish it out. Tying the rod
in place can be a devil of a job but the DIY I did is still working after
more than 2 years (touch wood).

Glocks, sorry highjack your tread. I should be getting my T5 by 2nd week
of November. Thanks to Marlin and Ady that came to view the car with me
sometimes back. My loan has been approved, now waiting for the bank to
process the transfer and insurance before I can take the car. Can't wait
to get it and have fun with it.
I need to change certain thing in the car and will appreciate if anyone
can recommend a good workshop in KL(Cheras/Ampang)for me to sent the car
for repair.
The thing need to be change:
Front right driveshaft bellow
Driveshaft oil seal
Turbo return pipe 'o' ring and gasket
Transmission small oil sump may be leak

Wah, so little things to change only ke ? Well let's us know after one
month and the final bill that goes with it. I haven't finalise my repairs
yet, so still figuring out what to do next. A proper speaker systems (from
4 speakers to six) will be on my hit list.
