Any specialists in tuning stromberg twin carburator
for my 144s 1970 model ?
The timing is bad.
The car engine shakes bad in cold start...then after
30 minutes idling , it gets better and the jerking and
shaking all gone.
that means , when its hot , he is OK.
but when for cold start in the morning for the first
30 minutes shakes so badly till i'm afraid the engine
will fell down.
please help.
Is the anything to do with insuufient air for the
stromberg?
thanks

SA6 , Dreiger

I am in S'pore.
My dad is the one in Ipoh taking care of the car.
Now,
He wanted to bring the car to Kamachi or Hakitrade but
then the situation, money, time , family all did not
permit to do so.
Sadly,
He sent to a friend of mine in Ipoh to check and
change the possibility and necessity.
I can't sent the car to KL as the are many problems to
care if in KL.
So now...

changed 8 valves to unleaded valves, valve seats,
gaskets, cremvalve and some components inside
stromberg twin carburator......costs includes labour
was RM1300.
Actually I don't have the details with me now....but I
know that my dad said he changed a lot of things in
the car...he even returned all the all spare parts
including gaskets and the bill has all the relevant
items.

Anyway, I can't judge the price now as I haven't see
the bill.

Now the car has this problem that:

1. petrol leaking underneath the boot but the funny
part is the oil tank is OKOK. Where is the leakage
comes from.....Remember: it only happens if the tank
is full...but for half and below...it does not happen.

Is the anything to do with insuffient air for the
stromberg?

3. When riding the car above 100km/h it gives the
sound...."tttttttttttttttttttt" like tappet sound.
the foreman said can't tighten the valves as it may
broke.

Thanks to all the guys who replied me before and now
on.

Can't really tell whether RM1300 is expensive or not
if we don't know what are the parts that has been
changed. For the seek of comfort, if many parts hv
been changed than just consider resonable.

Your probelm 1) could be a leak from any hoses joint
or from the seal or possibily a leak form the tank
itself. For proper inspection, you may need to take
tha whole tank out.

Your problem 2) beside the timing, check also your
engine mounting. Heavy shake engine could mean a
torn/damage mounting. Visual inspection is difficult,
afraid the damage in between.

Your problem 3) loose tappet ??? not sure until I hear
the noise.

Hi guys,

Just would like like to check with You all on this 2
model.
Actually I'm planning to get either of these type of
volvos for my farm drive which is below 4K. Can you
all guide me on 144 DL(deluxe) or 244? Which one has a
higher fuel consumption and higher r/maintenance cost?

What do you all think about the 144 DL model?

Thanks

Lately, I am seeing very few 144s on the road. Almost none esp. the B18
ones. Where have they gone?

Sorry Appuboy, I used to have a 144S not 164. My colleague drive a 164 but
modded to used a B18 down from B30 so it is a liitle underpowered. I have
since sold of my 144S due to lack of time and resources to do up the car
andalso because I got married and the 144S without PS is a little to
difficult for the missus to drive.

Alex.
p.s. Hopefully someday in the future I will get another Volvo.
