don't know whether directly related but i was also having intermittent
noises coming from front suspension. sound was also like how you
described & upon checking discovered that one of the engine mounts was on
its way out. can't remember which mount but had to get that as well as
the mount bracket (?) replaced. got OE items & the bill set me back close
to 1k. painful, yes but so far no more funny noises & the car immediately
felt so much smoother during in-gear acceleration & gearchanges.

My V40 used to have the same sound on the left back but it sounded really
like the front absorbers. A checked by SM discovered that the mountings
and bushings were worn. I changed almost all the mountings, left tie-rod
and certain bushings one shot and the noise were gone. The steering was no
longer vibrates. But that was only for 2 weeks, the steering vibrates
again. At least the 'krak-krak' sound is gone. Now the right side starts
getting noisy. I am also in a dilemma where to send the car as many visits
to SM could not solve even some basic problems.

v40.

is that RM1015 for all 4? can't be...right? otherwise, you've got to tell
me where you send your car! still haven't quite sorted my issues out, the
minute i bring it over to the mechanics the sound refuses to appear. the
knocking noises still appears intermittently, sometimes it goes away &
sometimes it gets fairly persistent, especially on undulating roads even
at low/moderate speeds. need to troubleshoot, don't think i can live with
the sound.

If I am not mistaken, for Front Engine, Forward Wheel Drive, the Drive
Shaft Tourque Lifts Left Rear Wheel of the car, so Left Rear of car
Lifts, means that more load going to Front Right Wheel of the car.

Basically, suspension systems are designed to function with certain types
of motion through the built-in pivot points and flexures of the system.
Any distortions of the suspension at points other than the intended pivot
points (as in, flexing or bending of the control arms) has a detrimental
effect on both handling and traction, which in turn cause failure on
shock absorber.

In my opinion, the control arm and the frame attach point are not stiff
enough (some sort of design flaw) causing a distorsion of the suspension
at points other than the intended pivot points. It is wise to Stiffen the
control arm and frame attach point.

Note that stiffening has different aspect from strengthening. Stiffening
relates to the ability to resist flexure or bending and deflections
(Cross Sectional GEOMETRIC plays an important role), while strengthening
relates mostly on tension and compression stress (loads) thus relates to
Cross Sectional AREA for the same material used.

(See posting title "Waja`s strut bar on S40 - posted by cheuman), better
check if there is a compatibility of their control arms (Waja, Perdana or
Mitsu Charisma.

Hope that this helps and gives you ideas to rectify your right side
suspension problem.

Good Luck.

richard.

thanks for the price breakdown. i'm guessing i got ######ed for my single
right mount, was charged 500+ for an OE replacement & an additional 300+
for the mounting bracket (??).

if it's any consolation at least the rest of the mounts are cheaper.
where exactly is Vauto Supply?
