Gents,
Anyone installed HID (XENON) on their current S40 2.4i? If you have, any
particular brand you recommend or problems with installations?

Thanks

SuperDave

Andrew,
HID which you know stands for High Intensity Discharge (HID). PIAA
sells both halogen bulbs from 4000K to 6000K and also HID. As you may
know, most cars are installed with 4000K which is yellowish in color. PIAA
superwhite claims to be white at 4300K, but they are not. You will only
reach white when he bulb is rated at 5000k and above. Anything below 5000K
it will not be truly white. Most HID are above 5000K ratings, of course
the best will be between 5500K to 6000K. Anything above these numbers, the
light will be truly white and you will not be able to see during heavy
rain.

superdave,

since PIAA got halogen bulb which is above 5000k, so what for to insatall
HID which is much more expensive? one of the SA told me as most of the
after market HID is only 35w whereras the stock is 55w, thus will affect
the ECU......

thanks!

bulb beside of less power consumed (55w v 35w)?

Are you looking for pseudo-HID white bulbs or the real HID gas discharge
lamps? There is a difference, you know?

My recommendation is to source for the original OEM HID gas discharge kit
for retro-fitting onto your car. These won't be cheap. You won't have to
worry about K ratings as well because there is only one spec for the OEM kit.

If you are more interested in getting the "white" look together with a
lousy drive in the rain, then by all means get any 4000 to 6000K bulb you
fancy.

kevin,

what u meant was even branded halogen white bulb like PIAA will also give
us lousy drive while raining? but some sifu told me as long as you dun go
above 5000k, there should be no problem even rainy day.......is it true?

Andrew,
HID is a high intesity discharge with low wattage. It also provides
you with a visibility, provided you do not exceed 6000K. 6K is just nice,
anything beyond that, it will be lousy drive in the rain.

I am not sure if it will affect the ECU. The Sales Consultant told me
there was a customer who is using it without any problems. Can you check
with the service center and let me know. Check before you make a decision
to install HID.

Thanks
Rgds,
SuperDave

Sorry to interrupt guys, but wish to know if all cars can be fitted with
these HID lights? I find my V40 lights hopeless.
