Thank You Max 33 and Richard.

The V70 that I booked was sent for general inspection at SM, Jalan Chan Sow
Lin and the outcome.....not favourable. Physically, the car is in good
condition and SM verified that the milage of 80,000 km is genuine for the
YR2001 car.

The diagnostic system detected that there are two major repair needed.
1) Electronic Throttle Control (ETCS) Body needs replacement. SM estimates
RM 3K. If it is not replaced, the engine idling is poor, worst still engine
can not start at all later on.
2) Mass Air Flow sensor needs replacement. If not replaced, air/fuel can
mix properly. Another RM 2K.
3) Labour charges, software download, etc RM 500.

Wow, total repair needed RM 5.5K even before I can warm the seat with my butt.

At this point, I have not signed the HP agreement and hand over my PV6
which I trade in for the V70. If the seller is not willing to absorb full
or part of the repair cost, I may abort the deal and lose the RM 500
deposit and start searching for other V70.

What do you guys think?

Hi Max 33, you also interested in V70 and Why? For me, it is the space and
also the design of the car. I find it sleek and sporty. But the price for
the spare parts scared me today. Do you have the same worry?

Hi Volvorine,

I used to be afraid of volvo before I get to know San-Denki. I suggest that
you should consult San Denki and get some technical advice from
Jeffery..it's free ma.. :-). You can still catch him at 9pm - 10pm at his
workshop (that may be the best time to chat with him). Pls don't go on
friday night because of Pasar Malam.

He will tell you how the maintenance cost like. It should share the same
maintenance cost as S70 I guess... You will not see so many S70 on the road
if the maintenace cost is high..

Not many people appreciate Volvo Wagon in Msia. I like it simply because
it's unique and value for money.

Hope you can find a good one soon.

Hi Max & Richard,

I just chat with Jeffrey Ng over the phone today about the maintenance cost
for V70. His comment about the maintenace cost is V70 maintenance cost
definitely more expensive than my PV6.Parts are either Original Volvo or
some can be OEM German. Apart from the ETCS body and Mass Airflow sensor,
there are no major issues with this car. He mentioned that the ETCS body
may be cleaned and serviced rather than replaced.

SM quoted RM3K+2K+0.5K=RM5.5K.(Replace ETCS & Airflow sensor+ software
Download)
Jeffrey quoted RM 1.8K (Replace Airflow sensor+ software downlaod but ETCS
not replaced, just cleaned and serviced)

He said he has the full diagnostic kits and tools to service and repair Volvo.

You recommend the right person for me to speak to and at least now I feel
more comfortable about acquiring a Volvo.

As for now, the seller want to replace the two parts(or probably one only
since he may also just get the ETCS body cleaned without my knowledge) but
using potong kereta one only.

I will update of my progress and thanks a lot for your valuable advice
brothers.

V406198, Ha Ha You're right.. I'm a bit lucky because I'm staying very near
to his workshop.. He is too busy. I think if he works 24 hrs a day also
cannot clear all his car... I normally collect my car midnight... :-)

Hi Max 33,
The car dealer with whom I booked the V70 is right opposite Leisure Mall at
the Cheras Autocity and also near to San Denki. So I get the dealer to talk
to San Denki and has the car repaired there before I take delivery.
However I agreed to reimburse the dealer 50% of the repair cost but limited
to maximum RM 1K. If I don't fork out a single cent, the dealer will repair
with potong kereta parts which is not a good idea also for sensitive items
like air flow sensor.

I hope everything going smooth and look forward to being a family member of
Volvo soon.

Bye. Smile

Is San Denki a good place for interior repair/touchup?
like wood panel, cracked power window control pieces, etc

Hi Everybody,

Finally, I take delivery of my V70 today with the mass airflow sensor
replaced with a new one and the ETCS body serviced. It is nice to drive,
power delivery is smooth and sufficient for the heavy wagon.

V70 2.0 LPT
Year 2001
Metallic Silver.

Thanks for all your valuable advice.

Congrats on your new V70. And you're lucky to stay close by to Jeffry. My
cooling system, brake and suspension overhaul for my volvo was all done by
him and he did a good job. Only qualms is that he is so so busy. And as
you've experienced he is willing to give advice over the phone and I have
on many occasions benefited from his advice over the phone troubleshooting
starting issues with 740 and 940.

BTW main reason I'm posting is if u don't mind is how much did u purchase
ur 2001 V70? And was the financing rate good? I'm planning to get another
"newer" volvo soon and a V70 or S40 is on the list. Thanks
