rides,
the spec is different. all overseas GLE model using B234 16valves engine.
but not in malaysia, local spec remains the B230E. No, 740 never had a
B230F. B230F was a newer engine for 940. in fact, first model of 940 (1990-
1992) using the B230E as well, before upgraded to B230F(new electronic
fuel injection-Jetronic)

GLE in Malaysia only have a chrome trimming outside the windows &
windshields, and small wiper at the headlights. that's all.

ok

newkelisa,
My is 740GLE 7/1990, face lift model. So far no problem with the
connector. Better check with your mechanics why asking you to change
engine. As much as I know, our engine type CIS, is very lasting and
reliable one.

Thanks again everyone. Now I know all 740 had B230E here unlike in the US.

Scenic

Nice model you have there (face lift). I've heard that there were some
harness issues in pre 1990 models. Maybe I'm unlucky and suffering from
it. Or was it all the engine washes done at NSS before? Oh well ...
mechanically the car is strong and in good shape.

I think the mechanic just wanted to offer me an upgrade.

Another topic that can resist to comment....OO just a second my baby
crying...ahhhh..OK were am I, most local 740 use machanical fuel system
develop by Bosch, is call the CIS system. The engine block are the same
as 940's non turbo. No doubt Volvo engine are very lasting but I started
to have doubt about it's CIS sytem. Mine 740GLE seem to have a slight
problem during start after stopping for few hours but morning start was
OK. After many attempts to rectify the problem I figure out it is the
fuel sytem problem. The CIS fuel distributor should be the main cause of
problem. I have checked with shops, this are not servicable and the new
one cost Rm4,000/pc to order from oversea !!!!

Well I am leaving with the problem until now, other than that the engine
was great. Top speed for these engine with CIS system can only reach
160km/hr !!! hv tried to go over this limit but only a down slope highway
can help !!! I already have plan to upgrade to a 940 LPT model, this
engine seem to be my best choise for pleasure in town driving and a speed
up to 180km/hr...sorry got to go now bye .......Ok Ok daddy is coming
don't cry....

Hah..another 740GLE owner having the same problem, that make you six
person that having the same problem !! it happen not only to the 740s but
to all 240 who is using the same CIS fuel system like us. Strangely some
240 that I know off still runing well...

I think the problem is with the fuel distributors unit as when it hot the
fuel pressure within the distributor somehow sip or leak through to the
return hose and eventually some of the injector do not have fuel so
starting become uneven like one of the plug cable was dead. Once the fuel
pressure within the system become even, than the running back to normal,
usually in just a few second.

I face more serious problem with it something as I can't start even with
several crank !!! that scary.....

I have a similar starting problem with my CIS that is prolong cranking
after more than a couple of hours after stopping including in the morning.
It has gotten better ie less cranking needed after changing the ignition
relay and adjusting the air-fuel mixture.

I've alleviated that problem now by bliping the crank once then reset to
off then crank again. Has never failed to start during 2nd crank with
current starting method. Seems fuel pressure related.

I'm betting it's either the check valve or the accumulator, will be
planning to have a look at those when the fuel filter is due for change.

On another note I can't help asking but can anyone tell me the part no for
the bosch relay behind the power steering reservoir (B230E)

Thanks.
