Hi Volvo Forumers,
Lately I've been following the Volvo forum for quite some time. Actually I
fell in love with 940 when it was first introduced. But then could not
afford. When money is available, searching for 940/850 but none is
impressive enough. Suddently found one in B Caves 940 1997 model with 108k
km. Puspakom's inspection showed that the brakes need to be repaired and
it makes Kreeek kreek sound.
So I feel that I need to consult all of you about the repair. Can ordinary
workshop cheapo one can do it or do I need to send it to specialist? FYI,
the has been serviced by Volcar. I don't think I can send it there as I am
up in the north.
Your kind assistance is deeply appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the club & congratulations on your purchase, ziemann. Your
description of your brake repair is very general. The sound you hear only
comes on when you step on the brake pedal? Or, does it comes on when the
car is moving? My guess is that the brake pads are worn & needs
replacement. Any competent mechanic should be able to do the job but make
sure that you get good quality brake pads (like original Volvo pads or
equivalent). Which part of the north are you in? We have some members in
Penang who would be pleased to assist you if you are from there.

Ziemann,
You found one or you bought one ? If you're at the "found" stage, why not
spend some money at SM or FA to have a thorough check before committing ?
Puspakom's checks are half-past-six one especially near festive season
when business is good and they might not be that familiar with Volvos.
Don't go to ordinary cheapo (shade-tree) mechanics, find some who are ex-
Volvo mechanics who deals with Volvos. FYI, my current mechanic always
have some Volvos (I've seen 240/740/940/850/S40/S60/S80/S90 there)
throughout the week and he doesn't keep the cars for more than two days
(except mine which was for more than a week). These are one of the common
tell-tale signs of a regular Volvo mechanic and to test them, they should
always recommend original parts, not those cost saving items. It's your
life they're dealing with.....
