Found but Japanese one. Original code is 1208-840 and this is 1208-890. So
if anyone of you changed it before, what’s the noticeable difference ?
I’ve checked with a few owners who had similar problems with mine and it’s
all due to old age or high mileage. Take care when you’re clocking 300 km
plus. When in the 200 km range, the valve seals will be shot and
lubrication oil is blown through the pistons.
While the gearbox is being changed, I’ve asked for all the necessary
replacement of the oil seals and was told that each seal is about hundred
plus. There goes my 17” and a new coat of paint. Who wants to a Tuned T5
ECU ??? kekekekkekekeke
During this while, I’m driving a 120Y (similar to one which I owned),
which the mechanic lend me. Petrol doesn’t seemed to be used up and for a
car that age (23 years), I feel better than driving a Proton Saga. The
bonnet is still rust free, noise from the dashboard is minimal except the
power factor but hey, this car is much cheaper than a Saga when both were
new. Now the selling price of this 120Y is about 3k. So why are people
still buying the 40k Iswara ? They have been conned big time. Power factor
can be improved with a C20 engine.
Last, I used the WAJA for the trip to source for the gearbox. I wonder how
the WAJA forum guys achieved 200 km/h. Maybe downhill, without air-cond,
no load, wind behind the back, etc ??? I did 170 for a stretch but nowhere
near the mentioned figures and after not getting a good progress, I gave
up. Makes you long for the T5 power but the ride on the WAJA was better,
hehehehehe. Now I’m wondering if the T5 engine I saw can go inside the
WAJA…… then there’ll be the first WAJAT

Glock,
My seals have started giving me the problems, as well. According to my
mechanic, who said that they've seen it many times already (incidentally,
promoting and instilling confidence in me that they know what's actually
at fault, and will go directly to the problem) and have repaired many an
855 and even 854s of this phenomenon till today.
Their only setback to me was that they require two days to do this. And
since they're going to drop the gearbox, and tear it down into two, i
figured, "Heck, why not change the Timing Belt as well. There's a already
a crack they saw that day and showed me.". Though they showed a similar
crack on the bottom mounting, I said leave that one, till the next
paycheck lah.
The mechanic told me that there are like 4 different seals that need to be
changed. The effect is that, the engine would bleed oil, not a lot, and
not much, but bleeding nonetheless. It's not enough to cause a stain on
the floor of my basement parking (though, probably the lightings need to
be improved) or the parking area at my home.
But if I could guess, ATF would surely need to be changed, engine oil as
well (I took Pak Vol940's and the others' advise to continue with the
fully-synthetic oil), the seals (anjing laut MANA nih?) and the Timing
Belt. He nicely put it to me that, "Labor would be slightly more lah".
While there, I asked him to check a little or here and there as well.
Nothing much that needs replacing lah. (Well, he IS hoarding my baby for
TWO days!).
He's supposed to call me back today, for a rundown of the actual costs.
In the meantime, I'm using his workshop-owned 240GL. It's definitely worn,
but the engine runs great still. :D Now I know how Uncle Cap48 feels,
everytime he rolls with his 245. Kwang 3X.
BTW, Glock, a friend once told me that in the Klang Valley, it would make
sense to send the car to a 'factory-like' setting in Puchong. They are
specialists in all gearboxes, for all cars, contis and all. I think the
name sounds like Sun Eng Hup or something. They are listed in M0t0R Tr@der
website. Why don't you give them a hoot, if finding a perfect one is a
problem to you...? For me, no choice due to some external issues - have to
send to the nearest around first. Wanted to send to MoonLight but have to
make appointment pulak. Ahhhh...
But I told the mechanic that there are other 855s that are facing the same
problem, so if he wants a good word, better make the work perfect!
Hope it works out for you, dude...

Glock,
What was the exact problem that replacement was the only choice out.
You mentioned when in the 200 km range, the valve seals will be shot and
lubrication oil is blown through the pistons. Are we suddenly having
additional oil level in lube reservoir or the Auto transmission oil level
dropping?
The 200/900 series also suffer the similar problem....
Wah the life span of the 120Y similar to Volvo minus the body and safety.
We buy at 40k because we want it brand new mah.
About Waja I'm not sure probably some additional chipping done or it may
be transplanted with the EVO. The 1.8 models Waja probably can run.

Beruang Ampang,
So now you're also using a replacement car eh ? So co-incidental. I
purposely bought a Motor-Trader book to look for these autobox specialist
and I did call up SUN ENG HUP but they don't have a working spare at the
moment. If they have, it'll cost 5.7k and they will want your gearbox in
return. As for the one I bought, the numbers are for JDM so hopefully
their ratio is the same.
Anyway I got very negative reports on those 'refurbished' units and their
problems are never ending. In fact all the mechanics I come across advised
to used a used unit instead of repaired and I think they know better cause
they are the ones who fixed the boxes up into the car.
Cap48,
Thanks for the heads up or else I would still be searching for a
replacement. The price is very good and they want to throw in the
dashboard. Hahahahahahha. Seems the reciept they gave me is 0001. Wow.
Hello01,
The Valve seals I mentioned is actually the tappet valve seals and if
they're damaged, the engine oil would get into the combustion chamber and
suck up all your lubrication oil. As for the 1.8 Waja, my friend used one
to try to catch the 940 LPT, smell smoke far far away lar. kekekekekeke.

glock19, just got a SMS from our Ipoh friend to pick up the bits he
reserved for me. Wow! Looks like you're the 1st customer of his. He just
unloaded his containers over the weekend, I think.

Cap48,
My mechanic said your dashboard has been taken out very professionally,
no breaks on the clips and you should be very glad. What happened to the
older one ? Is it for the 850 or 855 ? How much did he charge you ? You
can SMS me.

Hi cap48,
Check for me whether there is any spares for my 740 to get and then keep
for future consumptions. Volvo for Life, ma.

glock19, thanks for the info on the dash. Have not seen it yet & I don't
know what's the price our friend is asking for it. It's for my 850GLT. The
present dash rattles like mad over any irregularities on the road. Will
SMS you in due course. Cheers.
scenic, will keep a lookout for you but I don't think he has any 740 stuff
as yet.
