NEWKELISA; I felt the same way. I think it look slightly smaller. As
usual the sales team at Fed are very hospitable and maybe the nicest in the
industry.
When we test the car, it feel good and plush. Better than any high line
Accord or Camry. Not quite there as the Benz E class. But just as good if
not slightly better than BMW 5 series interior.
Driving definitely feel more stable than S40.
ANDEW; For a second or split second faster, can a person really tell just
by driving? Does it matter? Maybe to the desperado road bullies or track
racers?

Assuming both units also of good condition, I would most probably opt for
the e46 for the better resale in future, if you do not need a big car,
that is.
Cheers.

For safety, proceed with a Volvo. After all, that is the main reason most
of us ended up with a Volvo. I owned 2 Mercedes (124), clashes one of
them with total lost and stay in hospital for a short while, almost ended
up with latest BMW 525, but finally purchased a S80. Our highways are
gettign very busy with more new cars enterign the road everyday and you
may not enjoy the speeding as before. I believe if you want to ensure you
reach home safely all the time, go ahead with the S80. I will only
consider the E46 only if I use it as second car during weekend, or for my
wife daily commute to pick my kids.
