On days like today, I really would tell people to go and get themselves a
Proton than get an Alfa...

My car died on the way to work today. It was partly my fault because i did
not check whether the alternator was charging, it apparently died while I
was away over the weekend. How it died is anyones guess, but my suspicions
are focussed on my car mad siblings who probably took her out for a sprint
or 2.

The really annoying thing is, the alternator has recently been fixed. Yes,
it is a recond alternator which really could be part of the problem BUT it
is barealy 4 weeks old! Luckily, it was still under warranty, so no major
damage to the wallet when it comes to replacement. It did cost me a half
day at work, waiting for the good people of AAM to come and tow me to the
bengkel, as well as getting them to install the new alternator in.

Anyway, post new alternator, the Monstro is roaring like she should be and
I proceeded my sprint to PD. Then at the toll plaza, it happened, the air
cond turned off as the voltage reading went low whilst idling, and it
refused to turn on again. Hitting it again and again on the highway
yielded intermittent results with the Aircond turning on and off as it
likes!

So, the question that has to be asked.. How do I get the air cond to come
back on??? The buttons all work, but the blower would refuse to.. umm..
blow. Another question, has anyone managed to not get their cars to go low
voltage when idling? It seems that the alternator is just not up to task.
Last question, does anyone know where I could get an original alternator
and of course the pricing??

Luckily, I've a boss who used to be an alfisti, so all is forgiven. As one
who's been driving alfas since I started my proffesional working life, I
also know that this hair pulling experience will only make me value the
car more later... but still... Till later...

164V6 alternator voltage should stay at over 12.5 or bit more when idling,
if lower then 12.2V (less) the engine will stop running, all the function
will stop (electronic)
U can check the supply from the Alternator ( out let)
also recheck the current which come from the alternator to ur battery, see
is the voltage supply by the alternator is stable, with engine idling &
a/cond on? see any diffrence?
try give some throttle, see any chance voltage? (voltage will increase bit)
if all this ok, then must be ur voltage's gauge "tak tepat"

Recce,

My car pernah kena sekali like yours. Have to tow it to the workshop.
Alternator jammed...burning smell. It suddenly dies.

Then changed to recond alternator...then idling problem coz the
alternator did not supply consistant voltage.

Pas tu tukar alternator..new...then only OK.

there are lots and lots of such alike problem experienced...but till now
still wondering..Why do I still keep the car!
