Dear Opelians,

Hi all, I am currently having Opel Calais 2.6i. This car is having
problems of overheating. I had modified the bigger fans from Mercedes
Benz but the problem persists. Now, the car is alright when travel in
high speed but when idling, the temperature shoots up.

Would appreciate if fellow opelians could help. Also, it would be best if
someone could point me to a reliable mechanics in Opel in Penang. Thank
you !

My car suddenly started to have the same problem too. Out of the blue,
whamm... temp climbs over 100c, bouncing off the red zone. Moving ka, not
moving ka... the same.

I tot something was wrong with the cooling system. Nope. Turned out that
the HT leads have deteriorated and were leaking current. Changed them, now
the problem's gone!

I'm told by Nik that beefing up the grounding also helps. Not the
colourful fancy show-off cheeb@i stuff that car accessory shops sell, mind
you (I also fell into that trap, dun worry).

And if it helps.. check out Courtenay in the UK. They sell cool running
thermostats for souped up ECOTEC engines that open 10-deg sooner than
stock ones. Useful I think for our climate. Around RM200, it's pricey..
but the last time I checked, a stock thermo also sudah hantam RM170..

Hi,
great to know there are quite a number of opel owners here. I used to
own an Opel Vectra A Ecotec 16V Manual from 1994 till 2000. It's a great
car, despite the many maintainence issues. But sadly my dad sold the car
after he determined he could not afford the hefty repair bills. It was
sold for on RM29K (bought 103K ????!!!!) back then to a guy in KL (
wonder how the car is doing now -- JB plate : JDL 238X green in colour ).
Back then, information is not so easy, no forums, no clubs, no chop-shops
that stock conti parts. Every little part had to be shipped in from
Germany. My Ecotec Vectra A happen to be the few in the asian region, even
Singapore does not have such a model. I took extremely good care of the
car utilising only Shell Helix Ultra or Mobil 1 engine oil. All servicing
are done in Opel Singapore. Problem starts when my timing belt broke
(gosh!) at 41,000 km! I had to replaces all valves, cylinders , heads,
basically a major top overhaul, costs me SGD 10K+!! Good as new, i drove
for another 2 years until radiator failed, water pump failed etc. (car
had to be towed 6 times in one month!) My dad could not take it anymore
and sold in a fit of anger! If we were available to information and parts
then, most problems would have been easily solved!
Despite all these stuff, i loved the car, going to almost 200km/h on my
drive down from KL, surprising many honda accord owners. But driving it
takes some getting used to, car's too heavy, slugging first gear but great
second and third gears.
Anyway, I used to service my car (when going to Singapore to service
costs too much) at Sri's (tampoi JB), wonder if he remembers my car.

cheers

any problem about engine , u can go chevy servis centre. for your
information, if your engine ecotec model, can check by tech1 (for engine
system) or tech2 for gearbox system.

why, tech1 & tech2, supply by GM motor. I have test run tech1, inside with
program for aveo,optra,zafira,vetra,astra...all gm motor. Technican only
put what model only and run program.

krazz77,

sorry to hear the vectra A cost your dad a bomb for servicing. I am
currently driving the vectra C for 16 months. I like the handling
expecially in raining day... it is so much diff from jap cars. Hopefully
one day you able to own another opel car.

Cheer !
