Hi everyone. I’m planning to buy a used Honda City Year 1997 car and the
car has done 135,000 km. Can you all please tell me whether the car is a
good car and will it give me problem? I’m planning to repair the car
properly before I use it. In year 1997, has the Honda City model given any
problem? Please do suggest what are the services that I can do which will
make the car useable another 10 years and please let me know the market
price for this car. Hope you all there will reply and help me. Thank you in
advance.

Hi nchooi,

The market price for City in Penang is about RM 31000.00
I'm going for City is because of lower cc(1.3cc) and i think it won't
consume fuel that much, civic is 1.6cc. I think city's fuel consumption is
better that civic in term of cc. Do you think civic is better than city?
Civic looks more solid and stronger that city right?

hi ezhil22, i got a used city'97 >1yr back. things r generally ok.
factory installed alarm/immobilizer immobilized itself one day, AAM guy
spent >2hrs, then giv up & totally bypassed system. sent back to honda to
reset, took 15mins, they tell me quite common problem.
strongly suggest u get the 1.5l instead, 1.3at very underpowered. overall
good solid car.

Of course civic is better than city, in term of power, style and comfort.
But if u intend to save feul, better go for city type-z, 1500cc. Better
looking than city 1.3 '97.

Hi kitsan & KlaKla

Thank you for your reply. Both of you suggested that I go for a City 1.5cc,
currently I’m using a new Proton Iswara Special Edition(1.3) and the power
is ok for me. But if compared to Honda City 1.3 I’m sure City’s power and
pick up is better that Proton Iswara right? To tell you the truth, I really
scared of 1.5cc car because my friend’s Hyundai Accent 1.5(A) and Honda
Civic 1.6(A) really consumes petrol. That’s why going for 1300cc. Any
comment? Thank you.

got to be careful though coz the city being better built with better
quality is much heavier than the proton iswara.

may be a lil underpower for you. why dont you test drive it?

Hi cala

Yes! That’s right, I did not think about that, I will try to test drive
first before deciding. What are the differences between Honda City Type R
and Type Z? It seems that both models look the same and very hard to find
that models here.

colleagues iswara 1.3 & wira 1.3 both feels more adequate than city'97
1.3auto. city excellent for city, but on highway feels really underwhelmed.
was told fuel consumption for 1.3at and 1.5at not too much different coz
the 1.3engine is working quite hard expecially in auto. never really
measure but my 1.3at goes to the pump more quickly than my wira 1.5manual
for abt the same usage.

type z has slightly nicer looks, expecially back side. non type z 1.3 & 1.5
looks identical to my untrained eye though.

forgot to tell u, when i replace the windscreen, the guy told me he seemed
to have a more than average share of customers with my model replacing
front windscreens.

if u r a little DIY type, the front headlights bulb is a pain to replace on
one side (dont remember which) coz the clip is blocked
