I intend to buy a 2006 yr volvo S80, however seem like most of my friend not encourage me to have one, coz it difficult to maintain, and some of them told me that a volvo owner almost every month send his car to FA for repairing, and the problem is non-stop occurring. With those kind of discouraging statement, it really cooling down my excitement to have one.

I never drive Continental Car before, among my friends are driving Japanese car, so i quite worry after i bought the used volvo, if anything happen nobody can provide me the proper opinion.

I wish to have your kind opinion, should i have one? And I am staying in Melaka, can anyone provide me a volvo specialist in Melaka.

Thank you!!

Go to volvo owners club malaysia facebook (vocm). get the list of mechanics in melaka from the members there. I would say that in msia, volvo would have the 2nd most numbers of mechanics (after mercedes benz) available (or at least mechanics who are brave to handle european makes). my s60 2.0t 2003 is generally trouble free. I think s80 2.5t would be my choice or s40 2.4.
Anyway, go to vocm and ask around there. at least you would get real advice from real owners, not "i hear that my neighbour's friend's girlfriend's father's partner's son's car a lot of problems).

If you buy your own parts and change them at a fair & knowledgeable mechanic, you would be ok. and get dont worried if you get OEM parts. ori Volvo-stickered parts may have been manufactured by the same OEM as well e.g. brake booster/pump from volvo is made by ATE, german manufacturer. U can buy ATE straigh away and avoid paying more for the "original volvo" which is actually the same part but with a "volvo" sticker on it. Other brake parts are made up of Lucas, absorbers from Sach (also german), may of the bushings from Lemforder (german too) (lemforder is part of ZF group). My model's turbo unit is from mitsubishi (hahaha, not so european after all). gearbox is from Warner Aisin (german-japanese jv)

So, dont worry so much UNLESS the previous owner didnt take care of the car & trashed the car. You may even buy from vocm owners who want to sell theirs.

Good luck - Kenny

so those who said the Volvo car are problematic car are actually driving Japanese car ???? Hahahahaha.... typical mindset !! BUT if you never own a contil car before.. than what comments from those friend of you are some how quite right. as contil car are expensive to maintain as parts price are definitely higher than Japanese car ( but the parts quality are higher & better as well ) so you might pay higher initial cost for parts replacement but it will last longer if you used it with care. so my advise to those wanted to buy a contil car but never own one before..your mind set of car ownership had to change as the contil car do need have tender love of care with any over abuse use the car with over scheduled interval maintenance, used cheap OEM parts, and also to save labour cost by sent the car to those none contil car specialist workshop will make your contil car ownership become nightmare ...otherwise you will be fine on your future contil ownership. so ask yourself are you willing to change your mind set ???
