I think the problem is when it starts on a slope. Should be ok if you had a rolling start. In any case the designers should have taken in to considerations driving terrain which is not always by the book. True the slope might not be to standards, that doesn't mean you can't rectify or design a car to be able to perform in those conditions when other vehicles can take on the slope. Put it this way. Its a great and convenient excuse.

Jonlsl Yes I agree in that its a convenient excuse but its not a great one as in reality its another nail in the Proton coffin and to be frank with you I don't understand why Proton continue in the way that they do.
In my view it will take a very strong and determined leader to bring Proton back from the edge and I don't see any that can undertake the role.

That slope is really insane. Once i was there at the base of the mountain during CNY, cars were in queue going up. My wife was driving a Myvi manual, have problems going up, (due to lack of HBA, and skills...haha). It was rolling back before can get up. Too dangerous, so we left.

In an earlier posting on this forum is the e mail of "Fikeri" He works,ed for Proton and was always very helpful. Perhaps if you try him you may be lucky.
I think that the last time he posted was in 2013 so he may have left.
Also you could ask Punch Powertrain of Belgium.

Yesterday (Sun 21) I took a MYVI auto 1.3 with one passenger and the AC on to test it on the hill.
On the first run the car climbed it in 2nd gear all of the way up
On the next run I stopped twice and pulled away with no difficulty
Run 3 and again the car was in 2nd gear, I accelerated near to the top of the hill and the gear changed into first
On Run 4 I again stopped and started twice on the hill with no difficulty.

In view of the lack of problems that I experienced on the climb I cannot believe that there may have been a problem with the Proton. Perhaps it was a driver problem or the hill has been modified since the original complaint.

I dont think there was a problem in the first place.
U r driving a normal 4 speeder autobox which has the clutch lock up much earlier than the cvt gb used bt proton.so u wont have any problem.
on proton cvt, that gb fully lock at abt 1800rpm hence the driver with the problem might feel like the car does not move fwd esp on a slope and panic cause the car will roll back.
Notice the complaint was made in traffic jam situation?

i have driven cvt, manual, and auto on steep gradient.
have to adapt to each gb when driving.
on the exora,i will hold the brake with my left foot and build rev with my right and releases the brake at abt 1600-1800rpm.the car moves with no problem at all.i only uses this method on steep slope when moving from standstill.

for my flx , after 3 years of usage , i learned the cvt n how to use it

to make a long story short , on climbs and slow moving situations , ALWAYS use L Gear , its alot smoother than D and ALOT less jumpy......
in my case , on inclines , if i shoft to L , it will roll bacl for about 30-40 cm roughly, thn it will move forward without me pressing the accelerator , once on the move u can keep it in L...bcos the L gear seems not to have a lock , its more like a variable L gear...bt usually when u have enough torque jus shift to D while on da move n thats it...actually no drama at all...
it has enough torque for almost all situations , i tried the steep hills in damansara n surrounding area , no issue at all
