Guys,
I knew MG is british made and not suppose to discuss in Japanese coupe thread, however, there are none MG thread or continental sportscar column. That's why i can only posted my questions here....
MG TF 160 is a convertible 2 door roadster like MRS or Z4. a 04-05 model is at the range of 80k and was cheaper than MRS, Mx5 & etc....
Anyone won this car and kind to share your experiences?
was it a fun car?, how was the performance in acceleration and handling? maintenance at which workshop? easy to find parts? please share as details possible as i am very tempting.

My brother has one which he bought new in 2005. When he left to work overseas it was left in my care.
The engine is quite basic and easy to maintain. Used to send to Brooklands Motors which was the authorised service centre. Now found another independent workshop in Puchong near my house. Much cheaper. Spare parts can be a problem (especially since Brooklands have very limited stock) but can order over the internet from UK.
Drive: it is a MANUAL. So if you cannot drive one, then forget it. 160 refers to the Horsepower, so it is reasonably powerful esp with manual transmission. A bit noisy because the engine is behind you. Comes with an optional hardtop which I have not removed yet (no place to keep it!) Should be fun to drive "topless" in suitable weather.

Hi bro,
Thanks forthe good feedback, I m certainly a manual guy who are also driving a V6 2.0 manual gear. I too think spare part is a concern thats why it was cheaper than MRS, RX8, MX5 etc.... In fact MG went kabut and sold to Chinese owner which they also manufactured TF160 in China (since i work in China, so I thought it would be easier for me to source parts) but i guess this model is not popular in China as i never saw one on the road.
I stay near by Sunway, hope to meet you TT and check out your brother car if it is possible. any idea how much your brother bought during 2004? for such a small roadster, 160horses should not be disappounted.
let me knowif we can TT.
Many thanks.....

I think he bought it for RM 170K in 2005. Mileage now 43K only
I did some forum search, and found lots of complaint from this guy http://www.mgsucks.co.uk
he listed all the problems below and the car was leaking. was it really that bad? how reliable you found the car??
Hole in roof (replaced)
Gear box problems
Bonnet badge replaced
Window seals replaced (carpet and speakers kept getting wet)
Door straps replaced (Doors would not stay open and would shut on your shins)
Foam in passenger's seat replaced
Drivers side window dropped off its rail
Scratch on windscreen due to wiper blade coming out of its tooth
Head gasket blown
Misfiring and causing sensor problems (delayed the return of the vehicle even more)

The only major problem was the outside door handle broke (connection inside the door itself). Brooklands did not have the part. In the end I found an independent workshop who ordered the part from UK and got it fixed. Manual gearbox of any manufacturer very rarely give problems. Occasionally there is some water seepage from the window during rain. This is because when the door is closed, it pushes aside the rubber liner on the hardtop roof. Easily corrected by lowering the window a little and then raise again. Newer cars like the Alfa Romeo Mito has a mechanism to lower the window slightly as you close the door and then raise it again once the door is fully shut.
The other problems are probably just his bad luck and got a lemon car.

thanks for the good feedback ! In that case, i can start to hunt for my dream TF. Since i m working in China, i think it would be easy to buy any TF parts so long the part sizes is not too big
Thanks again for the good info.
